20' Superfisherman vs Master Angler

I recently sold a 20' Sailfish I had to buy a house. Loved the way the boat rode and since it was a clone of a Seacraft 20, I decided to look for another.

The reason for my post is I came across a 20 foot Master Angler today. Just curious if these hold their value the same way as the superfisherman does? Honestly, I liked the extra room that the 3 piece hull affords. It seemed a lot bigger inside. Plus,. The higher gunwales seem like they would make fishing more comfortable.

It needs a lot of cosmetic work plus the engine is a 1987 but I think I can get it for the right price. I would like to keep it for a while and then move up to a 23 when the budget allows. I just don't want to buy it and then not be able to sell it when I am ready to upgrade.

Thiughts?

Had a 20 sf but always liked the extra depth of the master angler and resessed bow rail. I feel it is a much safer boat for offshore work not that the sf is bad

I felt the same way when I was standing in it. It feels so much bigger than the SF inside. Just curious if they are appreciated as much as the SF is when it comes to resale.

Yes they are.

Cool. I may try and sea trial her this weekend. If it runs as good as the owner claims, I will make an offer...

I have had both and the master angler feels so much larger than the SF

I think my brother, 1988 18 SF, would agree that my 20 MA is significantly larger. Oh, and mine is a mint Garage Queen. Haha

Vezo, Part II

Any chance I could get my old sig pic back? Both boats moored together.

Would love to see some pics of the Garage Queen :)

Topflitegraphics 12-05-2017 08:22 PM

It is actually one that was listed here by user Red20. Struck deal and she is now mine. Cannot wait to make her pretty again. No more "ODB" Old Dirty Boat at the previous owners kids named it LOL

I will share some pics and plans tomorrow

Bought my first SeaCraft 1979 20 Master Angler in 1996. Had only had a Boston Whaler 13 in the early 1970’s. Center consul search began in the Fla Keys, and this began the search before the internet, or CSC. Stand in each, and decide for yourself. Oooh! Congratulations!!!

Now that I have pulled the trigger, I will probably start a project thread. Plans include T-Top, a full paint job, new rub rail, might modify the console for some widescreen electronics too :)

Bigshrimpin 12-06-2017 04:54 PM

I'm still dying to know who the previous owners were in the early 80's.

Topflitegraphics 12-06-2017 05:52 PM

Not sure how to find that information out. Would like to know it too. Red20 told me the original owner was a personal friend of the Potter family and a guide in the Keys that got it and modified it to his tastes just as the company was being sold. Supposed to be one of the last two Potter built Master Angler hulls...

Eric B 12-06-2017 05:59 PM

Doesn't that look like Ralph Delph's boat from the ad Bigshrimpin posted???? What a treasure that would be!!!!

Topflitegraphics 12-06-2017 06:04 PM

I don't think so. The boat in that ad does not have the raised cap nor are the boxes at the transom the same. Lastly, the engine cowling cover is totally different. The console looks the same, however.

NoBones 12-06-2017 07:27 PM

Congrats Topflite....

Big question, where is it's new home ??

Topflitegraphics 12-06-2017 07:34 PM

Didn't go very far, one from Boca Raton Florida to Boynton Beach Florida. About two towns away

I’m not sure what month in 1979 Mr. Potter sold, nor the month mine was built, but an old member here, can’t remember his user name, but Roger is from RI, and had an identical ‘79 Master Angler to mine. He may have been a fly fisherman because he had added electric trolling motors to his (Bennett?) trim tabs.

Also, after discussing my MA with Denny (Bushwacker), he believed mine may have been built late in Mr. Potter’s era, because the gel coat is so thin that it has “print through” of hand laid woven roven. He proposed possible cutting back on the thickness prior to sale of his company. Having hand laid quite a few Jersey Speed Skiffs over the years, I came to like the look of my hull. Interesting.

For reference, my HIN is SECM00620279.

I can’t remember Rogers user name for the life of me. Miss the old site. And my Avatar...

Topflitegraphics 12-08-2017 10:05 AM

I might see about doing a title search on it to find out who the original owner was. Just have to find out how to do that. Will keep you posted.

uncleboo 12-08-2017 11:04 AM

Marine fisheries, wildlife agent maybe?

dcobbett 12-11-2017 05:18 PM

Guessing, but Roger's name might be Roger Stgermain (not sure of my spelling either).

Vezo, Part II 12-11-2017 05:35 PM

That’s It, St. Germaine. Do you remember his boat/username? His boat was damn close to identical to mine. Good call! Thanks.

Michael.
