In Need of Outriggers to Buy

Just checking with members here that might have a good set with bases before I take the plunge for a set I will likely use just once a year.

outriggers

i've got a set of Lees that I took off my Chris Craft
side mount
i'll send you a picture if interested

I’m interested in all but ultimately I have to go with T top mounts as I already have the metal welded in and don’t have room for gunnel mounts

I am king scrounger.

Found an Armstrong twin floatation bracket for 500 clams.
Nice but need to section 4 inches out per side.

Last week I found a LP /live well /rocket launcher/ tackle station.
Glass and nice. 500 clams.

Also got a fish box/ raised front deck for the racer!
FREE. Thanks Don!!!

Those rupps are great outriggers but really heavy and require HD mounts. I'm looking at theses that weigh 3.5 pounds each.

This is a really good price for Gemlux carbon fiber riggers. I was going with Taco mounts anyway so these look like a deal considering they are 1600 from Gem.

I`ve heard of issues with the collars on the older style bly/gem and marshtackie
riggers.

Went down to Ft.Pierce today for a new control for my motor. I asked about outriggers and the owner said $400 for the tacos and 290 something for rupp 15'.

i have Blys, no issues. went up to 18 footers on all center included. lighter, stiffer. great for trolling big squid bars.

i actually have my alum set (2 outside, 1 center) gathering dust. have to check lengths.

id let em go for 200 shipped from cape cod. may need to pay admin for that statement :). if want pics lemme know.

I absolutely want to run squid spreads and have basically been told good carbon fiber is the only way to go and stay light. The Gen 1 Gemlux are Bly and the deal for the set I posted seem like a pretty good. I’ve also been told to avoid used mounts as they have likely been replaced for a reason and will need parts to refurbish them. What mounts are you using?

kmoose 02-03-2018 10:02 AM

I am going to check on the 17’ Marsh Tacky and see what kind of discount is offered.

outriggers

The lees sidewinders are the best ive seen for a center console...had them on my 31 ocean master and my 23 seacraft. Very simple and sturdy.

No clue on the mounts, they came with the T Top and are welded in. handle that swings them out/in. its is real nice to not have any rigger lines in the way so can get around the console no lines to jump over. so my lines are attached to the t top. The center rigger mount I did add, dont recall the brand but is a mount that is fully supported the length of the tube. Don't get any center mount that does not have that. wont last 2 much bounce even with C and smaller bars. i took a piece of composite transom core (coosa??) lying around glassed painted mounted it to my t top for the center rigger.

far as used rigger mounts, they are pretty straight up simple to me. handle that swings out and back in. locks into place. tube for the outrigger to sit in. folks could just be cutting them out of a t top to sell maybe. my mounts have to be close to 15 maybe 20 years old. center is new though.

No doubt CF fishes better. and for me I can get them up into place easy. went from 15 1/2 footers to 18' footers. i dont keep mine in place all season, every tuna trip put them up, they reside fully extended though all the time even though can collapse.

personally i only fish bird bars, being a smaller boat can get them back farther, plus more splash.

the serious questions and theory gets into how rigging them. i have tried a slew of different setups before settling on what works for me. another conversation for another day.
