Very nice!! I noticed electronics are much more compact now days!! :) I'd rather have the extra interior space with an outboard on a bracket. Nice find and good luck.

I am in Sandy Eggo and looking for a 20-23' Seacraft too. What did you give for it? Did you looksee at any others in socal that you passed on or know of any other ones you might suggest to check out? David |

I picked this one up for a reasonable price.. center consoles in so cal are hars to come by. And sea craft is rare on the west coast |
Sexy, I just picked up a 1979 one of five built that year, rotted for $1500. I am gong to keep mine an I/O they are sexyier than outboards.

Stripping it for a new gelcoat, and color sanding.. any suggestions?

Try wet sanding a section with 1200 grit, look around your area to find some "Aqua Buff" compound.... It is good stuff.
That gelcoat is thicker then you think ! My son does that for a living... You would be surprised at the results.. He wet sanded a section on the red 1968 27 SeaMaster about 5 years ago and it is still shining !! I will get a pic in the morning for you... Cheaper and easier over painting or re-gelin'.. |

NoBones is correct! My neighbor turned me on the the Aqua Buff, stuff is really good. I would start with the 1000 then maybe move up to the 2000 to finish, here's what you are looking for. If you go the fine sandpaper first you may only need the 2000. Good luck and Aleve works well for the sore muscles. :)

Wet sanding a twenty by hand is very doable. Factory gel coat, measured in mil’s, is normally about a dime thick. Probably thicker on older models. Unless you want a different color, you’ll be amazed at how the oxidation can be removed up to 100%. That yellow is classic and after years of detail experience always remember one thing:
Cars are painted. Boats are gel coated. Just go bump your dock, or ask me how I know. Vezo. |

Just for grins....here's a cross section of the transom skin off a 1972 23' I/O CC. The glass is 1/4" thick including the red gel coat. And let me tell you that stuff gets on everything when you grind it!!

The deck is a little brittle so i think the new layer of gel coat will be great for the longevity of the boat.. the color sanding on the hull should come up nice..

DA sanders work well for this job.

IMHO, if you're sanding something that potentially had wax at some point, use wax remover first. That will buff right out

Thanks guys for the imput. Don thats a cool cross section shot.. the deck of this boat isnt soft at all but its brittle.. im hoping the new gel will bring it back to life

Ok guys
Completly stripped . Now should i gel coat the whole deck, or acid wash , repair all stress marksand holes then color sand and buff.. what do you guys think? |
