Louvered Vents Source
I'm preparing to refit my '76 23' Sceptre - she was an I/O that was converted to a bracketed outboard, and has four black louvered vents in the hull. I'd like to put new vents in, as mine are chipped and cracked, but haven't found the right size (mine are 5 5/8" x 14" overall). Anybody have a source? I found white ones, and guess I could paint them with plastic paint in a pinch. Thanks!

they are all over Ebay.
search- boat vent bilge louver |
ebay seller searayman13 / explorersport13 (same seller)
https://www.ebay.com/itm/VENT-LOUVER...item1caafc7fed He's got bright white, white, grey, and black. They are identical to the originals on my 77 seafari; they are new old stock; I spoke with the seller, who happens to be in my neck of the woods, and will buy more in the even I crack one. Highly recommended. |

West Marine has them too.

Just for grins Jim....one of my vents is a bit rough, so I went on the WM web site to check on replacing it and they want $35 for a black one that fits my boat. Out I went and looked at mine again and it's seems it has repaired it's self to like new condition!! :)

Mine are a little bigger than the one's West Marine has. I took one of my old one's in and compared. There are a lot of places selling the Sea Dog louvers that are "almost" what I have, but not quite.

My '79 23 Sceptre came with Attwood Louvers.
http://www.attwoodmarine.com/store/p...-Louvered-Vent They were "chrome plated" originally but over the years turned into a dull gray color with a little "chrome" left over. After looking up what they cost new (), I painted them the hull color (Jade Mist), reinstalled them and called it good. |
Picked a set up for my 73 from Lewis marine but also checked another source called baronusa.net had some in black or white for 8.50 each

Repaired Louvered Vent
Years ago I switched my 20' Seafari louvers to larger ones, more like what was on the 23' I think. Never could EASILY find replacements in the right size. Mine were pretty good except for damage to a couple louvers. Used a little fiberglass cloth, epoxy, maybe a little Marine Tex as bondo, small dremel tool grinder, sandpaper, and black spray paint- looks like new!

I was able to get some flat profile vents. They are SST painted black. They work great for the rear vents because they lay flush with the boat and won't bend or break. My friend Phil hooked me up with them. Over the years (41) we have broken plenty of the plastic ones on the rear due to crunching them on the docks.

I made aluminum frames to protect mine from fenders.

Are the 20 and the 23 vents different sizes?

My 78 sf20 and my 73 sf23 used the same plastic ones

Louvers
Years ago I replaced my '76 Seafari louvers with ones slightly larger. Bought them aftermarket. Thought they were same size as on larger SeaCraft models- maybe not. But never found replacements for the larger ones in WM or Stuart, Fl marine supply stores. Hence the repair I described. The flat SS ones Jim Bigpipe has look good.
