Panhandle Members
Knowing that we have a bunch of fellow CSC members that live in the area
that Michael wiped out, would like to hear from you if possible... Martin lives in Panama City and Tom Paris to the east in Crawfordville... If anyone here has contact info please pass it along. We are praying for your safety ! |
Prayers got out to all effected in that area...
|
I was wondering about that myself. Local station showed video of trailered boats from coast that were parked on and near the side of the road by Crawfordville before the storm. Sad to see all the destruction up there. We almost moved to Mexico beach about 10 years ago. It was such a beautiful area.

I don't know where members live there, but here is the aerial imagery if anyone else does.

The damage beginning just 25 miles to the east of me is catastrophic. We're sending a pickup truck loaded with 800 lbs of ice and fresh food to the western part of Bay County almost every day out of my little 20 person church. There's lots of fresh water being brought in for now from FEMA, Budweiser and Sam's Club, but the immediate need is for ice fresh food, particularly for children and the elderly in rural areas, which are largely forgotten by governmental aid organizations.
The "Official" max measured wind speed was 155 mph, as measured by buoys dropped into the storm by Hurricane Hunters. However, Tyndall AFB, before the building came apart, with a static anemometer measured sustained wind speeds of 141 kts (162 mph), gusting to 166 kts (191 mph). The anemometer at Base Ops was destroyed in the building collapse, and so the wind speed is "unverified", because there is only an eyewitness account with no records remaining. Simply put, unofficially Michael was the 2nd strongest named hurricane to ever hit the United States, 2nd only to Hurricane Camille in the 1960's, whose strongest measured wind (of which we know) was 163 mph. Meteorologists believe Camille came ashore with even higher wind speeds, but all anemometers in the area of landfall were destroyed in the storm. It's believed the most powerful of all time was the rather compact 1935 Labor Day hurricane which hit the Florida Keys with a recorded atmospheric pressure of only 892 millibars, and winds at an estimated sustained wind speed of 175-180 mph. Hurricane Wilma briefly dipped to 882 millibars during a time when the sustained wind speeds were measured at 183.3 mph, but was at 928 millibars when she came ashore That atmospheric pressure level is commensurate with the central pressure of an EF-5 Tornado, which has wind speeds of 200+ mph. |
after Andrew had reports from turkey point operaters that the meter blew off the building at 216 mph. These things can really make man feel humble

Ken, thank you so much.. we are fine.. there is a huge amount of support from the community and gov
.that is overwhelming at times.. the amount of support is amazing.. my company I work for in Santa Rosa bch have gone outta the way to help here in pc. From equipment to manpower. From water to fuel to help the municipalities and hospitals... we are headed east to st Joe and Mexico bch to volunteer hour time and resources to lay 1000' of 10" pipe for there water main.. completely free to them cause they have such a small tax base. They have pretty much no reserves.. it's very sad how go works. But it is what it is... I'm just fortunately blessed to have a job with regional utilities...Taking in one day atta time.. pressing forward in unpredictable seas... |
BTW CaptTodd Jones is fine along with his family.
The suffered a tree to the house taking out his office/ trophy room. His seacraft is fine and so is mine.. along with two more I saw in parker that were surrounded by massive oak trees that have fallen all around them..it was pretty amazing that.mine survived. The roof blew off the pole barn and missed the boat...#Seacraftstrong |
Glad to see you are well as you can be in these circumstances...
