Seacraft 18 deck removal question
I am about to buy a SC 18 and I was hoping for some advice on the deck/interior liner,
I love the layout of the 18, I wouldn't change anything about it, saying this I really would like to redo the transom and remove all the old foam in the bilge and re do the core on the deck, My thought is if I separate the interior liner/deck completely from the hull, clean, fix what i need to fix, recore and then rejoin the hull and the interior together not really cutting into any of the original components, am i just going to end up breaking something? Any feedback would be appreciated, |

Ditto, Capt Chuck...
Having foam in the bilge is like having turds in an un-flushed toilet !! It did not get there without someone depositing it... |
Local joke?
you should've seen the foam I dropped in my bilge earlier today... so should I rip the liner up or not? |
No joke
What year SeaCraft do you have? Yo noboner----> Are we talking rodent invasion here? |

There should be NO FOAM in your bilge from the factory !! Local joke ? Go ahead, make our day... |
I had foam in the bilge on my 75 SF18.
It was only accessible after I cut out the rear fish box/bait well, which was also encased in foam. After cutting out the box, the foam went all the way forward to the fuel tank coffin. Would definitely not be accessible without removing the fish box/bait well. Assumed it had to be factory. Scraped it out with a trowel. |
Take a look at my thread, 'deck replacement'. You can see what's under there. Sounds like a big job taking the liner out.

Did the quarter lockers come off the transom easily? I just don't want to cut the deck out, id like to pull it all off with a gantry, |
The corners came out easily. I cut the floor out so I didn't have to worry about the hull distorting. The liner is a great deal of the structural integrity. I was also reducing weight anywhere and everywhere possible. Getting rid of the in deck live well would have been a little more troublesome for me if the whole liner was out. LEST WE FORGET...all that wonderful Potter Putty. That's going to be a pain without having access to it. There should be a very large area under the livewell that will make you lose your temper. Prepare yourself to hear some loud and uncomfortable cracking and popping noises! Good luck and please post pics.

Ok...time to chime in on this one. I am trying hard to start my own thread after picking a lot of your brains. I have a 1975 18SF in the process of a rebuild. Only my second post so forgive the picture if it is upside down. I cut my liner right behind the console to do the transom and carved out the fishbox as part of the diet (sitting on top of coffin box). Expected to battle the Potter Putty but mine popped loose easily. It may have something to do with the torque of an unfortified ski pylon. I would go on but I will save some for my thread and give back to a bunch of the guys who have shared their time with me. Look forward to seeing what you do.
