Ugh Chris..

Check the For Sale section....

We had one on here for 4 years that just sold from bilgerat in October for
chump change ... :o

They are sometimes hard to find as only 80 were built but it seems that once they surface people don't tend to want them and they sit or go for way less than their worth. Ive seen a few given away, a few that were fairly expensive but one will surface sooner or latter. If I don't find some time to do something with mine I will let you know. Its got a new fir transom and a custom fiberglass flotation bracket but the rest us mainly untouched. Hope to get mine functional this spring (said that last year too. also the year before that I think?) but like to concentrate on the 27 semester really...

Make sure you get some big trim tabs. It's much different ride then the 23.

Saw that one Ken, way too pretty for me tho!

Shouldve iterated id like to find a full project, been sitting in the bushes or in the corner of a yard type. Figure itll be a good while before one pops up so wanna get the feelers out now. Noted on the tabs and CG sensitivity Strick, been reading a bunch.

Thanks guys

ricknewman 02-05-2019 07:48 PM

I know the guy who has the 25 for sale on this site and the hull is deal at the price he has on it. You would have far more invested in a project hull to get in the condition of this one.

There were only 80 made and roughly 24 of those are accounted for now. You are searching for 1 of 56 25 seafaris left across the entire globe. I bet a bunch of the 56 unaccounted for 25 seafari hulls were taken out by hurricannes b/w 1971 - 2018. Good Luck!! If you want one . . . I would try to strike a deal with the seller. It beats grinding fiberglass for 2 years and spending double that redoing a ragged out hull.

In the spirit of black history month... "I have a dream"

I realize its a unicorn, thats why im posting here. If anyone knows where one might be, it would probably be someone on here.

This may ruffle some feathers but im looking for one to do a CC with. Notched transom with a single 300, flat cap and phonebooth style console.

Some folks like writing checks. I like creating. With raw materials and 2 hands, which have to run a grinder sometimes unfortunately. Dying breed i suppose...

cdavisdb 02-08-2019 03:44 PM

yep, you are looking for a stripped hull; my sympathy on that grinder.

The concept is interesting and fun to think about. Can you reduce the weight of the cabin and high cabin cap such that it will equal the raised cg from the engine? Notched transom keeps it as low as possible, but its still a lot of engine weight up high and this hull can roll like mad if you muck with the vertical cg too much. Fore and aft cg is another issue and putting the engine weight aft means coming up with a lot more weight forward from somewhere. Extra fuel tank forward of the main tank bulkhead? There's room for 30 gallons or so, even after putting in the bulkhead that Potter left out.

You might want to think about keeping it an I/O and reducing the height of the engine box. The deep hull keeps the engine box low already and it could be several inches lower, not too much impediment to fishing room. Keeping the I/O and reducing weight of cap and cabin and you should have a very stable hull with far less roll than its deeprise suggests.

Note: the ride is so good that you can put the console further forward than in any other boat.

You might want to play with some cg calculations to get a rough cut idea.

Good luck finding one and a successfui project.

dirtwheelsfl 02-08-2019 07:45 PM

Yes definitely pipedreams at the moment Connor, haha

Just spitballing but... integral fresh water tank in the bow, fuel shifted forward, and a big natural livewell in front of the console to allow water in at rest ala the ballast design. Keep the weight where it needs to be. Just did a cap for a 25 Bert CC that i could lift single handedly. Pilothouse wont weigh much either...

For sure envisioning some float tests being done!

I like fiberglass arts and crafts too, but those receipts add up. The 25 is a deal if you want one stock with a bracket. There was a 25 seafari project on THT about a year ago. it's a grey 25 that the owner started to cut up and make into a cc. There's been no updates on it for a while. You might be able to snag that one. I like the transom mounted outboard idea.

dirtwheelsfl 02-09-2019 06:47 PM

I figure ill be in for about 1/3 of what a 15 yr old cookie cutter "top tier" 25 with original motors is going for these days. Lucky to have generous builder friends around here!

I find i sleep better when i only keep receipts of the things i might need to return

Thanks for the link, i wrote him Monday actually. Said hes still got it but was distracted with another project at the moment. Told him to keep me in mind. He got it for free so ive got that going in my favor i think, fingers crossed.

cdavisdb 02-09-2019 08:44 PM

" i only keep receipts of the things i might need to return"

Roger that.

How much did my 25 cost me this year???? Damn if I know and I intend to keep it that way. The only other ones I keep are repair records so I can remember what's been done, trying not to remember the price pain.

dirtwheelsfl 02-10-2019 06:15 PM

Big fluke purchased this one that was converted to a cc many years ago. He took 3 hulls down to Hawaii and done some design work based on the hull bottom. There is a cool thread up here about that and a hull with killer race drive. He would have good info on the cc conversion and maybe BIGSHRIPIN can give you the link to the site that shows the stuff he done based of the 25 hull? Seems like they build a complete hull based off the 25 and modified one of the original hulls that he had with sponsons sp? grafted to the bottom. Edit: found pics and added them below of the test hull and the one off based off it. Shrimpin could tell you more about it than me tho...

Pilothouse is what I was planning on doing with mine (one day)

dirtwheelsfl 02-11-2019 07:53 PM

Those RIBs are neat! Ill have to check those out

This was Richie Carvalho's old 25 that big fluke bought, before it went to Hawaii. I suspect the pilot house came off when the 25 went into a container for shipping.

Coincidentally one of the senior engineers that managed the 25 seafari project for Steven Loui now works at WHOI. If I remember correctly he said there were four or five 25 seafari's that went to Hawaii.

Kama II (Dougs 25 with twin 190 hp Volvo Duo Props)
Devil Fish (Center Console) w/454 and Bravo Drive
25 with 300hpdi and Porta Bracket
25 with 480 hp Yanmar and Weismann drive
I think there was one more.

Mike - I really like this configuration for the 25.

Like to fab something up so that it will go back to the original mounting point of the original windshield. Something like member Handful near me done to his sceptre 23. I got a ton of low density foam and may try to do a mold so they could be duplicated possibly.

Bigshrimpin 02-12-2019 04:04 PM

I always wanted try making a pilot top with a couple of roll down windows or pop out windows from a mini van.

Thats a looker there, just enough forward rake on it. A couple handcrank windows would be prettty sweet!

My Seafari fold out windshield sure made the cockpit more comfortable than my buddies 23 Formula windshield which was either stationery or had s small vent at the bottom- too many years ago!

cdavisdb 02-13-2019 08:39 AM

"Too many years ago" Hmmm, seems like yesterday. Spent a lot of time in both 23 Formulas and Seafaris. Terry's right, down south, large opening windows are the cat's meow.

Richie Carvalho's old 25 looks so bad ass. How was the ride?

I did buy the SeaCraft 25' in Massachusetts that wss converted to a center console by a commercial fisherman. He really knew what he was doing: removing the foredeck cabin and building a fishbox from the footwell to the forward end of the v-berth inner liner shifted the lcg forward and kept the vcg as low as possible. From what I understand the fishbox was always full of ice or fish so his set up is much as Moesly envisioned with his ballasting system. He also moved the helm aft a bit which is a lot more comfortable then the original helm about 2' more forward. With the big block sterndrive giving it adequate stern weight, it runs much better than the other two SeaCraft 25s I have that were originally rigged with a smal block sterndrive and the other that I retrofitted with a single large outboard on a porta-bracket. Excellent seakeeping out to about 22 knots. Above that speed needs to be driven very attentively and with constant tab adjustment to keep upright in rough water or it will loll.

Never saved any pics. I did talk to him about purchasing and thought long and hard about it. Hesitated a week and off to Hawaii it went.

I found this from way back. This was the Kama II setup.

Fascinating stuff, thanks. Love that vid. Notice how dry the hull stays dry, even when digging into the wave in front? It helped me see why my boat is so dry in almost all conditions.

What was used for a platform to video? Must have been BIG to be so stable and fast

Blackfin26 02-16-2019 09:53 AM

Classic video of that 25 running. I just noticed it has the 3 bottom strakes like the 23 has. One must have been added (the longest one running to the bow) along the way? Other 25's just have two like the older 20's.

Islandtrader 02-16-2019 10:33 AM

I know I posted this before ...but since we are on the subject of the 25' people might find this interesting....COMPARING 25 TO THE 21

Cleaning up my home messages and wasn't sure if I answered you. The boat is up and running and we have ventilation problems with the outboards that Jamie positioned somewhat between the keel and mid hull panels. Next week we're modifying the outboard bracket to move the engines furthr apart like I've seen on some of the old photos. We think if we clear the riser between the keel and mid hull panels we will see cleaner water. To counter the weight of the Armstrong bracket and twin Suzuki 140s, we've had to put 500 pounds of chain in the bow to get her to balance right. She runs great in a head sea, plunges a little too much to my liking in a following sea. Overall, very good forebody but not as good as the SeaCraft 25'. It probably could use more flare in the bow and a big spray rail forward between the chine and keel. What realy surprised me is how softly she landed when launching off 3' foot chop on top of 4' long swells. Considering the average deadrise is about 20 degrees compared to the 26 degrees of the SeaCraft 25', she is almost as soft!

The 21' is quite impressive and with the mods we've made to the 25', including a production 30' based on a geosim of it, it is obvious Moesly was a great designer. We are working on a high seakeeping 24-26' RIB with high displacement of ~ 8500 lbs. Based on our tests on the 25', she simply tops out at a displacement of 7500 lbs so it does not make a good parent craft. I was thinking of stretching the 21' to about 24.5' and was curious about the differences between the 21' and the Potter 23'. I have limited experience from riding the 23' over 30 years ago and as best I remember it wasn't that impressed with the ride and remember getting soaked. I need to know more about the 23' to see if stretching the 21' will detract from her seakeeping.

We have used a digital camera and 3d software to create a very accurate solid model of the 21 and 25 and the differences/similarities are amazing. If you keep the keel panel of the 21' as the baseline parallel to the static waterline, the mid and outer panels slope down as they move aft, about 1.5" over 6'.

Anyway, didn't mean to go on so long BTW, the serial # of my 21' is 111.

Regards,
Big Fluke

20 and 25's all have 3 separate planing surfaces

The only seacraft's with 2 planes were the later 25ft+ racing hulls aka. "my racing machine".

Blackfin26 02-16-2019 02:57 PM

Big go back to the video of the 25 running with bow exposed. It has 3 strakes plus the extra chime piece added on. The pic above only has 2 strakes?

Bigshrimpin 02-16-2019 05:45 PM

yup . . . Those were add ons by bigfluke on KamaII. They also experimented but adding small steps in the hull (not shown in any pics) and gained a LOT of speed from what I understand.
