Console placement

Looking for anyone with my setup for a measurement from transom back top to front of console on deck. I know there is a weight and balance formula out there but would like to try and find a set up that is performing well and use there measurement. Thx Keith

O yea engine will be 300 30 inch shaft

i have a smaller console 34" wide x 52" long on my 23' and the front of my console is 30" from the forward casting deck. I wanted it as far forward as possible without looking strange. 120 lbs of batteries mounted all the way forward in my console under the seat. i test drove the boat for the first time this week and with a suzuki DF350 on a hermco twin bracket, the boat is very well balanced. does not squat. i can get a picture tonight.

Looking forward to pics. Are u the first person to do a 350? I remove my casting deck and have the console about 40 inch back from the bulkhead were step started about same place were u measure from which I believe at 40 inch is close to original location and it feels good and plenty of room between console and leaning postlwell and and between leaning post and transom crown. I did move tank forward and will have 2 both battery’s forward in consol. I have a twin Armstrong set up for 30 inch shaft so it sits about 3 inch from keel suppose to have great flotation. You have given something to think about now. I do like 2 fish 2 kits so was hoping to still have good deck space up front plus a coffin box.
Thx for your return was thinking no one liked me. Lol

Here two pics not great and nothing is bolted down

One last thing my console is 48 deep without a seat again there will be an 80 lb coffin box up front without fish or ice. im Thinking with my console being 4 inch forward in the back moving operator forward a little and the coffin box if that works to balance out the 10 inch difference in placement. Got to get this right, any thoughts

Oldboat 06-03-2019 09:05 AM

Is that 25 inch shaft

Oldboat 06-03-2019 09:05 AM

Looks to be sitting really nice

DonV 06-03-2019 09:13 AM

Very, very nice!!! Look forward to your performance numbers with that setup, should be really sweet! :)

castnetcracker 06-03-2019 09:24 AM

30" shaft. I talked with one other person that has a 350 on a 23' seacraft but had a different bracket and 25" shaft. I have a twin hermco bracket so went with the 30" shaft. I'm getting 58 mph with a full load and still need more prop. I really don't care to go any faster but that will improve economy at cruise speed. It does like to be mounted high so it could go either way with a 25" mounted low or a 30" mounted high depending on your bracket. I can move up one hole on the mount and probably will. I really went with this engine for the duoprop and not the extra 50 hp (it doesn't hurt though). I am very impressed with the low speed/reverse handling at the dock and ramp. I'll put together some performance numbers once i finish rigging and break in.

83" give or take. i wouldn't know the difference at drift between the 25"/30" shaft but we are only talking about a 5" difference vertically. I would think a hard top vs soft top would change your vertical center of gravity and tippiness more than 5" of engine

Thank you very much for all this
