New Evinrude G2 115, 140 & 150 models

It looks like smaller G2's are coming out for 2020. I searched for specs but I couldn't find much. Someone posted a Popular Mechanics article on THT. It looks like 390 lbs. for a 150 HP (I presume 20" shaft). No weight info on the smaller models. I would be interested to know if the lower HP models are the same weight or lighter.

The new G2 motors are also compatible with the premium instrumentation.

I think 390 for a 150 HP is pretty awesome. Please post if you have any more info on the new models. SC 20 owners need to know.

Now all they need to do is price match Suzuki!

Etec g2

Assuming the ETEC G2 150 has power steering like the early G2s. If so 390# for a 20” 150 beats the 418# on my 2012 150 HO. Still like the looks of the G1s over the G2s. But not trying to start any arguments.

The look allot better all white!!

The new motor is a 3 cylinder, 1.9L; probably 1/2 of the 300 hp G2 V-6 and incorporating the RAVE variable area exhaust system used on the BRP snowmobiles. Always figured it was only a matter of the time before they did that, as it makes a lot of sense from a parts commonality standpoint. Maybe they’ll bring out I-2 and V or I-4 versions in another year or two. Even the G1 models used the same bore and stroke for all the smaller I-2, !-3, V-4 and V-6 versions.

Pretty impressive performance on a 20’ x 8’ 3000 lb Key West runabout . . . WOT of 49.9 mph & 3.9 mpg! Best cruise of 27 mph & 5.0 mpg! Performance would be even better on the lighter and more efficient 20’ SeaCraft hull! Check out this test of the new 150! https://www.boattest.com/view-news/6...utboard-engine

The weight number is pretty impressive too, when you figure it INCLUDES the power steering system, fly-by-wire shift & throttle, AND a couple gallons of oil in the on-engine tank!

I might be losing it but did I just see a chart comparing torque for G2 3 cyl 150 / G1 150 / DF 140/ Yamaha 150? Can’t seem to find it again.

Daddy wants one

steel686 06-26-2019 06:40 AM

Thanks John. It was just a couple of charts and not a graph but that's good to have. I'll try to wrack my brain where I saw it.

Bikecop1 06-26-2019 06:48 AM

Yep, Im thinking this may be perfect for my seafari.

JUST JOHN 06-26-2019 08:13 AM

^yes, do it Jennings! I really like the look of those motors. very futuristic, like straight out of Robocop. You're gonna have to modernize the looks of the Seafari to match! ...Like paint match the aluminum moldings, tinted windows, hidden pop-up cleats and lights, shave unneeded items... That slick black-painted SF with the Range Rover inspired laser-cut mesh grill inserts and swim platform comes to mind.

jorgeinmiami 06-26-2019 03:40 PM

So what’s all this wiz bang engine going to cost me?

Too Much Torque

Depending on your usage you can have too much low end torque. When I was considering my 2012 ETEC 150 HO, i was impressed by the identical boat tug of war when the ETEC swamps the other boat. On my 20’ Seafari the ETEC couldnot hold a constant 17–18 mph for wakeboarding. The speed would fluctuate from 14-24. I finally solved it with a High Five prop and my mod to make a PerfectPass GPs contol fit ghe ETEC (the only one in the USA to my knowledge). Can hold wakeboard speed to less than plus or minus 1.

give it a year for brp to get the bugs worked out. Than DO IT!

How do you maintain/service the rave valve?

Looks like the 115 and 140 25 inch shaft models are 401lbs and the 150 is 408lbs.

rcoster38 12-18-2019 05:11 PM

ugh this mightve just made my restoration about 15k more expensive

SailorChlud 12-21-2019 04:05 PM

did I read this right - the oil tank is now under the hood, instead of in a separate locker?

DonV 12-21-2019 05:40 PM

It is on the larger ones.
