Those requiring the luxury of air conditioning are urged to engage the facilities nearby known as Cabbage Key (www,cabbagekey.com / phone no. 877-983-8814) for room or cottage reservations.
All other scallawags are welcome to the farting, snoring and drinking festival at Casa de la Costa. (Or you can just tie up at the dock)
The red tides and green algaes have been no where to be found and redfish, snook and trout are abundant for your inshore fishing pleasure. Offshore grouper, snapper and yellowtail along with an occasional triple tail near the stone crab trap floats are in season. At that time Stone Crab Season will be in full swing so bring your bibs.
The nearest boat ramp to Cabbage Key and Cayo Costa Island is Pineland Marina on Pine Island. They are at 13921 Waterfront Drive, Bokeelia, FL. 33922.

Looking forward to it. Have not been back to Cayo Costa late spring (before bugs). Fish then were coming back strong, should be even better now.

I’m looking forward to discussing next summer’s Bahamas plans.

We will need one that is dog friendly if there is one. I'll run it by Mel and see how it looks for us. Audi is now going on 5 and will be joining us as well. Shoot me a link for on the water places and I will try to work something out.

Snookerd 08-20-2019 09:40 PM

Ken-

I sent you a few pet friendly, on the water places. Check your PMs.

Snookerd 08-21-2019 09:25 AM

Rick-Pm sent.

kmoose 08-22-2019 09:24 AM

Mel and I are trying to get booked. Right now we are waiting for a response asking if we can park our boat in the canal. We would be arriving on the 6th with the Audi and the dogs and leaving the following Sunday. We did well spearing last time with Terry and the gang so I'm hoping I will be able to put my new shoulder to work for this next trip.

kmoose 08-25-2019 10:59 AM

We are booked in an on the water house from Wednesday to Sunday.

North end of Pine Island in Bokeela. It's and Airb&B rental. I couldn't get hotel on the water cheaper than this house and I can park my boat right in the back. Also am able to bring the little dogs so that is a plus as well.

I’ve never explored this area of Fla.. Moose, are you only going to be able to get to the group by boat? I’d like to attend, leaving from Hernando Beach and leaving Lucie behind with neighbors. If the ‘77 Seafari is sold by then, I’d like to bring the MA. TIA,

Michael

Michael, unlike the Nature Coast with it’s relatively short rivers and canals (Hernando Beach) that open directly into the Gulf, Charlotte Harbor and Pine Island Sound is a rather large bay and island system, particularly south of Boca Grande. If you look at the area on google earth you will see three sets of Island chains between the mainland and the Gulf with lots of protected water in the event of poor weather at our November Gathering. There are also lots of opportunities to run aground, however unlike Hernando and Citrus counties the bottom is more forgiving when navigating by Braille. Check it out and circle back if you have any questions.

Thanks Capt.. Looks like a really cool location for a gathering.

Michael.

Michael.

It worked out well when we tried it a few years ago, later in the Fall. Remember we “adjusted” the West Coast Gathering time into the late Summer to align with Scallop Season. We used to be a little later in the year.
If we happen to catch a November cold front that weekend there are plenty of Inshore Options down there for us to revert to, if necessary. Good Inshore fishery coming back and lots of cruising options in somewhat protected waters.

I made a map of all the places where guys are staying and T-3's gathering spot. If you aren't on there, let me know and I'll add you, or if you haven't pulled the trigger, you better get your priorities in line and book a place! Let me know if you need help finding a place.

Told him we’d gather him up. Awesome, Probably the only chance he’d ever get to ride is a 25 Seafari!

kmoose 09-16-2019 12:42 PM

Mel and I will be there and can provide some taxi service for any in need.

Sounds like someone's been fishing near Homosassa and Crystal River. You haven't lived 'til you hit an oyster bar at 20 kts.

Padre, it is extra painful with twins turning stainless wheels. Ugh!

Fr. Frank 09-26-2019 07:31 AM

I did it just after sundown with two women riding the roof of the Seafari cabin. Both made it all the way to the water beyond the oyster bar :o

No injuries except to pride and prop and two lost adult beverages.

lelandtampa 09-26-2019 11:27 AM

Gheenoe in the dark is pretty sporty at full tilt boogie into a sandbar with a non connected kill lanyard.

Leland, Gheenoes are good for harassing Snook in. We have about 8 miles of mangrove shore on Cayo Costa and too many mangrove Islands in Pine Island Sound to count. Think about it.

cdavisdb 10-01-2019 02:58 PM

If you do it right, you can hit an oyster bar instead of a sandbar, and not far from Terry's.

I imagine you may be bringing top water plugs?

lelandtampa 10-04-2019 10:08 PM

I harrass all fish as often as possible from Anglers inn matlacha in my gheenoe. Just 30 or so more years til I can retire down there. But when you do fly out of a gheenoe in the dark it's amazing the rev difference WOT in water vs air. 5 hp tohatsu in air turns at about 850,000 rpm when it's headed in your direction. That's a rough estimate. I don't have a tach.
