20 Sceptre

Been awhile since I've been out on the 20 Sceptre. need to go through the fuel system...going to drain the tank and re check everything...engine runs fine at lower speeds but surges at higher RPM...thought I replaced the fuel filters last time I did service...anyway the boat got me and a buddy to and fro safely...hit a small beach with our metal detectors...got 3 rings no gold...next day we hunted the foot hills and my friend scored his first gold coin...some random shots.

Its a territorial gold coin...made by a private mint back before they had the mint in San francisco...so its worth some dough... has a small dent on the obverse side but estimates from others are in the 3-5K range...the government bought up most of them back in the day to take them out of circulation...dont know if he will sell it...Note the head band says Moffat and Co instead of Liberty...if your lucky you will find one gold coin in a lifetime...found my first gold coin in the same area about a year ago. Lots of fun finding stuff..

"5800 rpm and hitting about 38 knots"

This was a quote from 2013 when I had it close to dialed in...I had to go look for it because it's been a couple years since I've even been on this boat...Once I fix the fuel issues I'm having I'll report back...

Glad to see you out enjoying your 20' sceptre. Ive been using mine a bit out trout fishing this year. Still haven't got my rub rail on or redone the outboard paint (had new decals for 4 years now) but she is useable. The trout bite is great this year in NC as we haven't had a good freeze in 4 years now. Yours still looks as good as it always has...

Thanks Friz..there neat little boats thats for sure once you get past the recessed windshield its all good...lots of storage WAY more then a CC....as my wife tells me its the perfect boat...I'm re doing a 20 master Angler right now and its going to be a bit cramped compared to the Sceptre (pics coming when its done).

Sounds cool, cant wait to se the "MA" 20' your doing. I actually have a 78 MA myself and plan on doing it this summer if I can find the time. I want to rework mine into something a little different than the standard lay out. Plans are large casting platforms front and rear with a forward console that has steps on both sides leading to the front platform. Cant wait to see pics of yours once you make some progress.

Just curious why that area is a good place for the metal detector? Was there a fort/town/landing there? Really cool about the gold coins.

Hey Strick, I?m an hour north of St. Pete, home of Owens and Sons trailers. I read somewhere that you?d like to have a new trailer delivered. I have an old F-250 7.3 that would easily handle that tow out to you. I?m not a professional but have the time if you were serious. Haven?t been cross country since following the Dead around about 30 years ago! Not sure how much it cost FlexPat, to make it to Park City, SLC, Utah, but I bet I could easily beat the pros price. Just a thought. I?m very familiar with the Owens?, had lunch with the whole company while picking one up to bring back to HHI, SC, two Christmas? ago. Have owned two myself as well as my brother. Have sold nine so far to friends in SC.

So are you of the single or dual axle theory for SC 20?s?

Michael.

Old mining camp...lots of mining activity. All that is left is lumps (tailing piles) and a few stacked rocks. Fun chasing the old timers.

Michael- that is a very generous offer. Last time I checked it was about 5k to have a boat hauled across...Tim and I only went half way (Omaha) and said we would never do it again lol.. It's funny you brought up the trailer though because I have agreed to get a float on from a fella down south of me. 2018 model. I like tandem axel just because of the added safety. Nice job on your Master Angler but I wish the pictures weren't so small so I could see the darn thing better..

One of these days if I buy an Egret I'll remember your offer. :)

Nice finds with those coins. I wish we had done some of that metal detecting when I lived out there. I'm about to pull the trigger on a equinox. Trying to decide b/w the 600 or 800.

For your area the 600 is probably all you need unless you plan on looking for tiny bits of gold. Make sure you get the wireless headphones. Call Me Before You buy so I can run you through it. Shake that cold and find some gold!

Jesus. The trailer should be under $4k and I could get there and back for 5 g?s. I have State Farm, and would have to check, but I think anything I?m towing is insured.

Michael.

Yup got a deal...under 4k for tandem axel 2018 float on..been sitting a while.
