Time to go postal !!

With all this media hype over a flu virus where the numbers of
the infected do not add up and the genius politicians are making irrational
moves to save and protect us... Ugh NO !

Today there is a flashing bill board at the New Smyrna Beach, FL. public ramps that reads "BOAT RAMPS CLOSED" 03/27/20-04/14/20 !!!!!
Give me a break, we are in the middle of the best fishing time on the
east coast that spring has to offer..

I know you guys in South FL. have had your ramps closed for a week or so now..

Time to stand up and say screw you ....

We have to take a stance ! I'm old enough and pissed off enough that
I do not care what the outcome will be....

MORE LATER !

lelandtampa 03-25-2020 10:24 PM

Yeah the government maintains it's long history of being nonsensical and lacking proficiency.

jorgeinmiami 03-26-2020 08:16 AM

Simple. Buy a house on the water and install a lift. Brttrrbyet install 2 lifts for all those that will come and visit. Many years ago I had a house on a canal and I had 4 boats back there. Best part was my wife could not tell which were mine and which were friends boats.

flyingfrizzle 03-26-2020 10:48 AM

So much for catching your own dinner and staying out of the grocery store. I say lift the bag limits on eatable fish during this time so people can stock their freezers the next two weeks. Im filling mine with trout this weekend hopefully :D

Since when do you get closer than 6 feet to anybody at the ramp or out on the water anyhow? How dose this help?

cdavisdb 03-26-2020 03:09 PM

Authorities are pressured to close off boating because of damn fools who gather on sandbars to party, up close and personal. Closure is a bad decision. The vast majority of boaters aren't going to sand bars and are not spreading the virus. We are getting screwed because of overreaction to a minority of fools.

jorgeinmiami 03-26-2020 03:47 PM

That happened here in Miami and they closed the marinas..ridiculous that a bunch of idiots ruined it for the reest

lelandtampa 03-26-2020 04:42 PM

Happily there is a noticeable uptick in jet skis for sale on Craigslist. So all the bartenders/club worker flat billed hat idiots that like to go WOT thru manatees zones are out of commission for a while.

DonV 03-26-2020 04:56 PM

Leland I have a great idea. Take some of the 2.2 Trillion we will never see and buy all the jet skis, then dig a really big hole and put all of them in there, set them on fire and cover it up. Then, and this is important, in the future you must NOT be an idiot to own one!! That will cut the number of jet skis by 90%!!

I won't go in to detail about my jet ski close call a few weeks ago out at Beer Can Island, but I'm happy I don't carry my gun on board. You would have heard about me on the local news.

lelandtampa 03-26-2020 06:17 PM

Things they almost never have on board.
Pfd, whistle, radio,

things they almost always have: a buzz, a discourteous attitude, a lead foot and a lack of navigational skills or knowledge

bumpdraft 03-26-2020 07:57 PM

Whoa there buckaroo, you ought to live around these parts, Ken. They are shutting down the ramp continuously, for all these "special " occasions, for craft shows, seafood festivals, wildlife shows, you name it.

martin 03-26-2020 08:10 PM

All ramps are open here on the panhandle.. I took lunch at hog town ramp in Santa Rosa Beach and the parking lot was full. About 50 trailers.. They are running people off babes that have large crowds but they will not shut our ramps because they know what a shit storm they will create for themselves... I've been steadily setting crab traps and getting ready for the flounder.. Will be cobia searching tomorrow.. Come to the panhandle and fish

NoBones 03-26-2020 08:13 PM

That's it !!!
Done with boating.....
Taking up Bob Ross painting on the back porch....:p
Go ahead ban "Bob".....

This whole thing is wearing me out !!

Lake Boca was the social media epicenter.

Port Orange Boat Ramps

kmoose 03-27-2020 09:39 PM

Taking My wife and the kid out by ourselves on the Freeman tomorrow for a sanity break. Tuna are running early and the wife wants me to fill the freezer with hog snapper. Good to have friends that live on the water and let me have full use of a $1/2 mil boat to use while all the ramps are closed.

bumpdraft 03-27-2020 10:47 PM

Well, our ramp remains open for now, but there's another issue. I don't do much weekend boating (too many people that don't know what they are doing), but I heard the waterfront was a zoo last weekend, with at least a hundred boats at the sand bar, traffic congested and trailers filling both lots and parked wherever they could. Some rigs with New York tags. Another friend of mine went out yesterday (Thursday) and said it was about the same as the weekend. A lot of businesses are closed, along with the schools and its nuts. My buddy said that he parked next to one of the campers in the lot and the guy inside stuck his head out the door, asking not to park so close, he was going to put his awning out. My buddy said, in case you didn't notice, the sign says boat trailers only.

Interesting that they have barricaded the launch ramps...I have not seen that even over here...whats the difference between people standing in lines at super markets vs people waiting to launch their boat? ....and please don't tell me one is necessary and the other is not....

Stupid politicians?

DonV 03-28-2020 11:05 AM

Politicians??? These the guys who thought going ahead with Mardi Gras was a good idea?? The same people who now blame everyone for their problems??

strick 03-29-2020 10:11 AM

I read somewhere that the some of the people hoarding the toilet paper were the same people wanting to put restrictions on how much ammo we could buy...

Thinking about it I guess you got the people that raft up to sand bars to blame for the ramp closures? So the fisherman suffer? We still are allowed to go out on our boats over here in Cali..I see plenty of guys going out. We don't have sand bars over here but there are a few tiny islands in the delta that people will raft up at...

The boating community in Florida is 1000 times what it is over here in California...ask someone over here what a Freeman is and they will tell you its a guy in his birthday suit walking around San Francisco. :)

strick

lelandtampa 03-29-2020 01:01 PM

The folks that are hoarding TP are probably not he same folks that used to go to Walmart everyday and buy up all the .22 ammo when it was scarce.

Martin Co. is still open. For now...

Found a spot on a six pack boat. I think I checked a bait twice today.
Started and ended the trip with remora.

Probably caught 15 total.

I have dolphin, cobia, mutton and mangrove snappah, banded rudder fish,
amberine, and kings for the folks at work.

Pulled the mangrove out of a presumed Goliath grouper judging by the teeth shredding pattern. Lots of sharks. Lost 2 very large fish that fought like cobia...

Well into the 350 yds of 60 lb braid backing on my new Avet G2 Lx 2 speed 6/3.

I've never spent more time hooked up. This closure sucks. This is our best fishing
of every year.

This is the latest on the great lakes(Lake Ontario Ny) Looks like ill have to reduce my crew from four down to two if I have to adhere to the NY waters on the Tsunami. it's either that or hide two guys in the cuddy.
Not sure what they will do about launching or slipping boats in the marina

SEE BELOW FOR THE NY RULES ON SHORE AND BOAT FISHING ON NY WATERS.

** While time spent afield on New York’s waters enhances your physical and mental well-being, in light of the COVID-19 outbreak, we ask that you please act safely when fishing. If you arrive at an angler parking area that is congested, consider finding another area that is less crowded. When you're on the water, please make sure there is ample room between you and your fellow anglers.

## Don't share a boat unless it is large enough so that all persons aboard can always remain at a minimum distance of six feet apart. Providing ample distance helps to reduce the spread of colds, flu and COVID-19 and also contributes to an overall better angling experience. Good luck!

Ramps here in Ft Walton in the Florida Panhandle are open and fairly busy for weekdays outside of Spring break or summer.

West Marine is open, but very little Pro business, mostly recreational boaters buying small stuff. Boat dealers and marine repair businesses have been told they are "non-essential" and must close unless they have contracts with a government entity.

Quite a few boats on Choctawhatchee Bay today, and I didn't see any that were closer than 50'. :)

SailorChlud 04-11-2020 11:46 AM

Come on, guys: don't most of us have a 4x4 and 20 feet of chain? It would take about 4 minutes flat to drag those concrete barricades out of there.

bumpdraft 04-11-2020 03:31 PM

I haven't been away from the house much in the last couple of weeks and decided to just take the Plymouth out for a short drive this morning. Drove by the ramp parking lot and it was packed. Traffic was heavy as well. I took a look at the inlet web cam and there were a number of boats in the inlet, but didn't see any at the sandbar. I suppose most are out there catching Dolphin.
A local news channel did a piece on commercial fisherman being able to launch at some ramps that were closed to recreational boats. They said that three counties down south had a total of thirty licenses issued last year in the same time period this year, there were over five hundred and thirty. I'm not sure how that would work, if you didn't register the boat as commercial. I let my SPL go a long time ago, when they started making it a nightmare regulating boats.

NoBones 04-11-2020 09:37 PM

All of us have an expiration date on the back of our heads, we just cannot
see it or know it.....
If I catch the dreaded virus and get called home so be it !

Just want to live my life without the government telling what I can and cannot do !!! Do not trust them, never have !!

And about 18 minutes to arrive at county lockup.

6 nice Mutton Schnappah.

Easter dinner is looking up today.
