Stoner Bracket on a 23CC
Hey Guys
I bought a Stoner Bracket for my 1985 Seacraft CC. Hoping to re-power with a single 300 Suzuki or Yamaha, 25inch shaft. Question for any one on the site that is running a Stoner bracket....how high on the transom did you mount the bracket & would you do anything different 2nd time around. appreciate any & all help/suggestions Thank you guys!! |

When we put the bracket, it's aluminum, on my brother's boat we mounted it 29" to the top engine mounting holes, the bracket was built at a 27" set back and it's a 25" shaft. Not the top of the bracket but 29" the mounting holes, if you want to simplify things I think the mounting holes are 2" below the top of the bracket, simple math and you are at 31" to the top of the bracket. I can't remember the formula for set back versus cav plate height, I think GFS knows it. If we had it to do over again we would have went 28 1/2", there is only one hole to lower the engine. Oh yeah we cheated, we had a forklift to help us position the bracket. You bought a fine bracket, good luck!!

I think Josh makes two brackets? Did you request a bracket for a 25 inch shaft?

I have Hermco's twin glass bracket. I think Stoner's are from the same mold (?) I still have Don's instructions in mail if anybody needs them. His instructions say top of platform at 26" above keel. Originally I had a 2 stroke 30" 250 Yamaha and re-powered to a 4 stroke 30" 300 Yamaha. I'm all the way up and would like to try higher but that would require a jack-plate. Based on my experience, I would like the ability to have more adjustment.

So mock it up do some math and make sure you can have adjustment at that range. The lower the tub the better, size the outboard leg to work with a low tub height. |
Thanks for all the help...appreciate all the input. Always been my intention for a 25in shaft. Prior 250 Yamaha 25in shaft was mounted 29 1/2in high with Bob's jack plate(6"set back), 15 /14x17 3 blade stainless prop..... boat ran great. I see the Hermco at 26 another at 28, so I'm getting close.

To refer back to "Old'sCool' post the Stoner and the Hermco are not the same mold. To compare look at the bracket on KMoose's and Jnamowitz's bracket, the dive platform is much higher on the Stoner than the Hermco. The 4 1/2" number mentioned by Frizz is a good place to start.

Here's how I'm planning on choosing bracket mounting height -
I have just taken some measurements from my stoner bracket (which has not been mounted yet) and FWIW, the bracket transom tops out at 4 inches above the platform (because the platform is set high compared to Hermco etc). So, if top motor bolts are two inches from top of transom, that puts them 2 inches above the platform on my Stoner bracket. I have a 300 Zuke with a 30 inch shaft still in the crate (So, obviously adjust for a 25 inch). It's a little awkward to pull a great measurement but it seems my anti-vent plate is 29 inches from the top motor mount hole, 27.5 from the middle of the middle hole. (I'm going bust the plastic to try and pull a better measurement to check this - if anybody else can check me, thanks!) Bracket has 28 inch offset, which using 12-1 as the formula, would mean I'd raise the motor 2.5-3 inches if I want to round up a little extra. So, to get the anti-vent plate 2.5-3 inches off the bottom of the transom, I should put the middle hole about 30-31 inches from the bottom of the transom to have some adjustment to play with. Since the top of platform should hit 2 inches below the top hole, that would put the platform height for my 30 inch shaft motor at 28-29 inches. It's worth noting Josh suggests 28-30 inches from bottom of transom for platform height for a 30 inch shaft - so I'm really just backing into his math. Since almost EVERYBODY moves up a hole, not down, I will go with at least 29 inches for the platform - after double checking my measurement on the motor itself. |
