Seacraft 20 hull total rebuild

Hey all,

Decided to go all in on a twice abandoned rebuild. Hull is a 1973. Originally it was an I/O, but someone chopped it out of there, and the plan is to rip out the past attempt at building a transom....

Long story short, I will not be using any of the deck parts, and just fabricating some new ones. Old parts were cut into way to many pieces to be worthwhile. Will be reusing the foredeck storage lockers, and cutting new hatches.

Going to need some help with measurements if anyone on here has them.
* Width at transom? currently 83" without the deck, and not sure if it sprung, and they just let it slide.
*Distances from transom to aft end of console, aft end of fuel tank, and to raised foredeck.

Thanks in advance, and appreciate any input.

Does it have a cap? Should be closer to 80”...

No... Cap is in pieces and hasnt been on in years. Like over a decade.

I just bought a 73 unmolested 20 sf. I'll get the width and such. As far as the distances from the transom to the console, tank, etc., you need to decide your power and how the center of gravity will change with your modifications. I moved the console forward 9" and the tank 15" on my 18 and will be moving the console forward +/- 12" when I do the 20. Good luck with the rebuild!

Thanks. Would be pretty helpful.
Started cutting out the plywood today, and the hin is definitely skewed at a diagonal.
Surprising how difficult it is to remove a poorly bonded transom

I measured at the top of the cap, 80" wide at the transom.

Thanks! Got the last of the plywood out today, and some foam panels on the way

Got it mostly ready. Feels good to get that demo out of the way. Think this is basically back to zero.
Moving forward from here on out.:D

Transom patterned and glued up

Looks good, it sure is nice to start putting things back in.

Make sure you put some bracing to keep your hull side from flexing out. Some of the more experienced guys can say more but I've read that without it you may have problems down the road.

If that is the case the damage is done. Hopefully it just needs to be persuaded back into shape.

The last guy put in the transom and didnt pull it back to 80". The guy before him removed the cap and other parts somewhere around 2004.
Once i get the transom on im going to throw the side decks up there and see how much the rest of the boat sprung and go from there.

Transom just about squared away. 2 layers of 3/4 airex with a third on the center 36". May be overkill but better than underdone.

I think it looks pretty cool, too.

What is your height keel to transom notch?

Ryan

Yardguy 11-24-2020 07:17 PM

I measured a regulator here and it was 27" from keel to transom edge, and 30" wide.
I am not glassing the top till after everything else is done. So if i change my mind, it is just a saw cut

Thanks, ub. Stole that diagonal inside edge from a 27' offshore whaler we have here. I liked the looks of it as well

27 inch should be good. I made my 1969 20ft to 26 3/4 inch from transom to keel and 27inch wide, after mounting the 140hp suzuki I could get it up to the last hole so I could have gone even higher and narrower it had plenty of space. I'm all about keeping that notch as small and high as possible for safety. It's looking really good keep the pictures coming!

Looking good! Deck and transom are airex? That will be a very nice ride when you are done.

Yes, It is airex 3/4" 24lb in the transom, and 20 at 1/2" for the decks. Got some lighter weight divinycell for the engine well, anchor locker and sidedecks.
Going to get tossed out of the heated workbay after the xmas break, so just gotta get done what i can.. Lucky they let me in at all so i gotta take advantage of it.
