Foaming liner

I’m about to remove my cap on my 23 and while it’s off it would be easy to pour some foam in between hull and cap. Any issues with this ? Trying to cut down on noise and vibration .
Thanks,
Kevin

Pour it in the crack and no telling where it will end up...I would not do it unless I was certain it was going to stay between the hull and liner.

Ditto!

Where else could it go ? I’ve already foamed in between hull and stringers. I would think it would hit bottom and then come up and out . Or is it even worth filling such a small void.

I can certainly see it helping... if it works

It’s a lot of work separating the liner from the hull to put some foam in between and then use hull and deck to bond the two back together.

Definitely not separating anything. Drill holes near top edge and poor in foam with funnel then epoxy holes .

Where’s your sense of adventure? I think it was gusting over 20 the day I glued it back in.

Just pour small batches. I have seen some bad things happen when the foam runs out of space.
While filling a lobster boat keel, with a form capping it, the 2x4's began to bend and before they blew through the cabin top someone smashed them free with a long handled sledge....

The other time, someone shot some in the topsides of an old mako during a repair, and it resulted in a huge split in the topsides. Additional rework time was needed to fix that big mistake

I've been waiting for someone to bring this up - I was originally going to pour foam between the liner and hull sides on my 23 but am hesitant to risk deforming either the inside or outside as the foam expands. I don't know how to get the Goldilocks size application. I wonder if that 'Great Stuff' spray can foam from Home Depot would work from underneath while the deck is out...

steel686 12-16-2020 09:31 PM

I think the warning on the side of Great Stuff is the obvious point. Too much and your windows don’t open. I would be concerned after watching the process of 2 part pourable foam in an open stringer. If you are pouring through a few holes at the top I think you might have cured material that chokes off surrounding sections and you blow the beautiful flair out of the hullsides. Or you get some unwanted tumblehome amidships. Understand the desire to tighten it up which is why I went through the effort to core sides. Jokes aside, it is a huge process.

Thanks for all the feedback. Greatly appreciated. I think I’ll try it with some 2 lb pour foam. I’ll be sure sure to have plenty of exit holes to prevent any bulging of the hull sides. Almost done with floor and then starting cap.
