Molestation of a 23
It is time to finally get to work on my remodel. This is a 72 hull that has never been touched. Finally made up my mind to get rid of the twin I/O set up. It was never really comfortable as the engine compartment swung towards the console making no room for seating. As it starts I am raising the floor 3 inches and removing the scuppers that drain strait down and having them drain out the back. Adding a bracket to hang a 350 Verado ( that ought to push us along). Adding a bait well in the transom will be better than that baitwell in the floor that I couldn’t use because it was completely below the water line. Josh at Stoner Boatworks will be doing the work as I just don’t have the time to tackle something this big. Some pictures to prove that it is happening.

Well I guess the pictures didn’t work the way I wanted
|
they work fine for me just click and they appear...
strick |
I like where its going. keep it up.
|
Looking good, good luck along the way.
Did you make the bracket? Do you have any details/pics on that process? Thanks |
Thats a Stoner Boatworks bracket. All fiberglass like the old Hermco ones.
|
That is right it is Josh’s bracket. A bit bigger tub than the hermco one. All fiberglass with composite reinforcement.
|
Interesting only one access port on the platform. Does that mean it has no stringers? Or are they just not full height?
|
I will see if I can get some pics next week. Josh has another in the mold
|
I know I sound like a broken record but...... Side Scuppers

More work has happened since the last post. They started ripping out the transom today.

A days worth of grinding

Well it has been a bit slow but finally some more progress the transom is sealed up and awaiting the new core

Starting to move along. 3 layers of glass tabbed in on the transom and rear vents filled in
|
Make sure you grind the edge on the outside of the vents and glass. If you don't they will separate at the edge on the outside and fracture thru the paint. Ask me how I know..... Both outside and inside require glassing.
|
They still have all the outside glass work to do on the vents. They made sure all the tabbing on the inside completely covered the vent hole. I do appreciate your comments Moose it is always better not to reinvente the wheel so to speak

Some more progress on the old girl. Transom has been recored with a 1 1/2 inch composite but before the composite was installed they layered the transom to 1/2 inch thick glass and finished it off with 4 more layers. The scupper drains are filled in as well as the old live well pick ups. The vent area was ground and glasses from the outside as well. Next steps are to build the stringers back to the transom and build the pocket for the through hull transducer than the floor.

Bracket is getting fitted. I also noticed under the cap it looks like 2 01 27 was written in marker. I wonder if this hull came out of the mold on Jan 27 1972. Anyone else notice writing like this on their restore.
|
looks good. curious what height they set your bracket at?
|
The bracket is set for a 30” shaft

I am going there today. I can get measurements for you.
|
The top of the bracket is set 30” up from the bottom of the boat
|
perfect. thanks! And when you say the top of the bracket, you mean the platform, not the motor mount, right?

would love to see how they set up the backing plates etc on yours.
|
I will defiantly post pictures when he gets it bolted. Josh took my rear skin and built it up to half an inch thick before he added the composite and than 4 more layers after they. Everything was tabbed 12” on the sides. My transom is bullet proof

Not a lot of work being done as I am also in line from boats ahead of me. Assured that it will start happening quicker. The teak spray rails have been sanded back into shape and glassed over to fair into hull better

A bit more progress. Building the stringers back to the transom
|

More progress The stringers have the chaulks to raise the floor up as well as the bulkhead for the fresh water tank. Also the front vents are filled in as well. Most of the hull has had the clear coat sanded off and little imperfections fixed.

It’s been a few weeks but progress is as follows. The front deck has been replaced and glassed back in. The floor is fitted in and getting trimmed in a few areas. The fresh water tank should be here tomorrow and foamed in. It is 25 gal of fresh water and will go right behind the tank. We are able to move the smaller console forward to help aid in keeping the weight distribution close. The keel has also been cut to allow the transducer to be installed on the boat centerline. Also I added pvc rigging tubes to make wiring and such easier

Little bit more. The live well is getting filled along with an anchor door in the cap

Still mare progress. The cap is off and recoding has begun
|
Please do not glass in the Teak spray rails ! David Brown did those in the early 70's, they are a work of art and need to be shown off...
Just my 2¢ worth... Only because that is what separates my 1970 20SF from the rest of the pack ! |
