Sea trialed a 23 with a 225 Yamaha on a bracket and it only topped out at 33 knots, I thought it would be faster. What are the normal numbers for this set up.

Thats almost 40 mph....sounds about right. We'll have to find out from JohnR what his does when he fires up those manly 235's and hammers down.

IF I CAN REMEMBER CORRECTLY MID 40’S WITH A 15 ¼ X 17 PROP ON MY 225 YAMAHA EFI THAT’S ABOUT 5200 RPM’S. I NOW HAVE 130 HRS ON THE MOTOR AND I HAVE ONLY WENT FULL THROTTLE TWO TIMES BOTH FOR ABOUT 60 SECOND EACH TIME ONCE TO CONFIRM I HAD THE WRITE PROP AND THE OTHER JUST TO CHECK SPEED. I PERSONALLY DON’T JUDGE MY RIG BASED ON MPR I USE HOLE SHOT AND CRUISING SPEED WITH SEA CONDITIONS AS MY MAJOR CRITERIA FOR HP AND BOAT CRITERIA. MY HOLE SHOT IS GREAT AND I CRUSE BETWEEN 25 TO 30 MPH WITH GOOD FUEL EFFICIENCY THAT ABOUT 3800 RPM’S. PERSONALLY I THINK THE 225 OR 250 SINGLE ENGINE WITH SEATOW IS THE WAY TO GO FOR THE 23 FOOTER. IF YOU ARE TRULY ONLY GETTING 33 MPR ON THAT RIG SOMETHING IS WRONG EATHER SPEED GAGE NOT CORRECT, MAYBE PROP SIZE, TRIM COULD BE A PROBLEM OR YOU MUST BE DRAGGING A ANCHOR BEHIND YOU. OH I DON’T HAVE A BRACKET EITHER.

Our 23 Sceptre with a '89 225 Rude does 32 knots WOT. Was the rig brand new?

Thanks for the input, I think it might be off a little but does not sound to far off.
I usually launch out of 14th st. in Pompano when I get the chance to go.
The boat was an 80 that was rebuilt, having second thoughts on it right now, not sure what to do. Everything I have looked at so far is overpriced for boats that need a lot of work, or old engines.
Lets see what this weeks Trader has, nearly came to tears over the NC boat for 12K.
I am actually starting to look at 26 Mako's, aside from it not being a SC any thoughts?

I own a 1979, 23' seavette, with twin Evinrude 200 Hp, long shafts, non counter-rotating. Mtrs were rebuilt in '86. They are tired but run well.
Props are SS, 13 3/4 x 21. Has a bracket. Tops out at about 5400 rpm. GPS says I am doing 56 mph with about 70 gallons in the tank (1/2 full) and two people. Sales brochure says that with a single 235 Hp, (no brackets back then) boat did 43 mph. Sounds about right for your test. Hope this info helps.

1984 23CC with 225 Suzuki does 35.6 knots at full throttle with half tank of fuel. Hope this helps.

My 23CC w/ 200 Yamaha found 45 MPH with 50 gal fuel, 2 dudes, down hill.
