A couple of questions
 

Hi Folks,

I have a couple of questions. I'm considering the differences between the center console layout and the cuddy in the 23 SC. I mostly fish out of Hatteras in North Carolina for Mahi, Kings, Wahoo and the occasional tuna. I am currently running a 21 foot cuddy. Day trips only, and I pick my days carefully. I'd like your opinions on the merrits of each layout for that type of fishing. 2nd Question: I had a thought about a way to make the center console layout a little dryer if I were to choose that layout. Could you attach to the T-top a couple of vertical Plexiglass or lexan "wings" that would be hinged against the t-top legs and could fold out (say at a 30 degree angle towards the stern) and attach to the gunnel and top. Thereby providing a wider shelter?? Anybody seen anything like this? Thanks!

Yes I have seen the wings yo refer to A friend of a friend made some for his Intrepid center console and Intrepid liked it so much I believe they are now an option on their boats.
Goggle Intrepid boats and see if it is the site.

As far as your other question ... the Scepter(cuddy) offers much more protection from the elements especially with a top and curtains...lots of cockpit... again especially with outboard versions ...

As far as running (and I can't speak from experience) BUT It would be my impression that you would get bounced around a bit more in the cuddy as you’re running the boat from a position further forward .... The center console is naturally back a bit further .... Extreme analogy but imagine riding on the bow versus on the stern covering board ....but its a SeaCraft so you don’t have to worry about getting "bounced" around [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img]

I agree with Scott. Another thing I like about my center console is that I can run the boat and work my lines at the same time- setting and fighting fish. But there is a lot less storage for all your "stuff". Especially if fishing more than 2 anglers.

Thanks Scott, Miles, and JW. That is one sweet boat and that's just what I was thinking with those wings. So much for my million dollar original idea. Oh well, back to digging ditches.

Unquestionably, the Sceptre offers the best weather protection, but as the others have mentioned, it has its downfalls. Like every boat, there are pluses and minuses. Personally I prefer a CC, but my father's Sceptre sure is comfy on those early and late season trips when you can hide inside the full enclosure.

Regarding the difference in ride CC vs cuddy, there definitely is one due to the helm placement. I've been in both setups and the Sceptre gives you the feeling of being bounced around more since you're so far forward in the hull.

Hey strider, I have a sceptre and it's great / dry and LOTS of cockpit space. Anchoring is a bit of work, but you can easily climb thru the windshield opening for bow access. It is a bit bumpy, but the storage space and wind protection is unbeatable. Marc... you can see pics at boatzone..
