fuel tank vent on 1973 cc
Just had a survey done on my boat and was told that the coast guard requires the vent for the tank be overboard instead of on the console(the tank is on the deck under the console). Is this right?Capt. Pete

Thats a new one to me. I would think that since the tank is above deck that rule would not apply. Although maybe they consider it a permenant installation? I would keep the "No Smoking" sign lit (no pun intended) on all flights though. Jon

Pete, 2 things- If this was the original design then its probably grandfathered just like the running lights for boats built before I think 75??
Did he survey the boat anyway or did he say you have to get that fixed?? The other thing is that the CG is not to tolerent of fuel being spilled overboard via vent anymore either.Call me this weekend and we will get those covers made, Im going to pick up some sunbrella today.craig |

Re: fuel tank vent on 1973 cc
Sweet, I`ve heard the same thing in the past and I think that it`s a good idea, but on that boat that is the way it came from the factory in 1973 so I can`t see you having any problem from the Coast Guard. The thing I can`t understand is Dusky which is building boats in South Florida is still putting tanks under the console and venting them in side the boat.

Well, I got this mess straight. The CG said it was ok, original equip. clause, besides I trailer my boat!! The survey came out good! $14,000 market value, $40,000 replacement cost! I don't try to understand that! Capt. Pete

Re: fuel tank vent on 1973 cc
Pretty work Pete !!! Got mine hauled today and its now beside the house (that was fun, not). Ordered my new hydraulic steering yesterday and also got one of those 3 spoked steering wheels with suicide knob (15")from boat us for 108$. Thought that was a pretty good price. Now its time to get down to the nitty gritty. Heard there was a good bite today off of Corrola decent size fish. See ya, craig
