bow eye ring replacement question
 

The bow eye ring is shot. Lucky the boat did not come off thge trailer. Looks like 3/4" of thread out of hull on the bottom.

There's no access to the ring from the inside. Was thinking of Dremel for cutting a rectangle out to get to it.

Is there a backing plate, is it glassed in, etc. Will I need to glass the piece back in or will 5200 work [for future access].

Anyone with experience on the best fix who's willing to share thoughts would be apreciated.

On my 23' C.C. the bow ring is accessable ,it's located in the anchor locker. Yes, the bow ring has a backing plate. Cutting the hull would be my last option.

Unfortunately mine's an 18 and the inner liner ? is in the way. I'm gonna' have to cut a piece out for access.

Tom,

I found the same problem with the bilge discharge fitting. I cut out a 5" hole with a hole saw to get at it. You can do the same, as the liner isn't going to miss that structural little part and you can always West it back in.

I have worked for a towing company for many years and find older boats have the worst rings and I am sometimes afraid to pull on them. I have pulled several out and deformed many. Backing is very important and you should add as much as possible. Also buy a size bigger or even as large as you can find. BW and Grady use HUGE beautiful Bow rings. If you use your boat offshore and need a tow, you will be glad you did.
