HP on a 20ft CC
 

Does anyone know what the min and max hp on a 1970
cc. One more thing, at one time it was a cuddy but was changed to a cc open fisherman. Thanks for all of you help.

I'm not sure about the HP for that model but here is a Start

I dont think the rating would have changed all that much (info is based in 1978 )

Tango, if you're worried about maxing out HP I think you'll max out on weight before HP. I have a 150c Yam on my '71 and I can't imagine anything heavier, I tried a 130 honda 4 stroke but would have had to re-build transom or add a gil bracket. I've got about 4" of freeboard remaining at the transom which ain't much. Min HP to get up: guessing 90hp on the newer engines but that would be like molasses. I get 6-8 gph at cruise 32 mph, top around 40 mph down hill, wind from behind...

Tango,
Dont go more than 415lbs,the Honda is way
too heavy for the 20's. The 140 Suzy or
Johnson 4 stroke is a good choice for fuel
savings. A small block V6 older carbed Yams like
the 200 Pro-V only weigh 415 lbs. The newer
Fichts to 175 are light in weight also if
you can trust them?

My brother-in-law's family has a 1969 yellow seacraft that originally had an 85 evinrude on it and it allegedly ran great even with the 85- it now has a 140 evinrude on it, and man is it fast. Does 40mph+. The 140 is a good choice as it is still based on OMC's v4 block and you get the most bang for the weight, and the buck too for that matter.

Does any of the hp rating change when adding a gil bracket to the transon? I am closing in the I/O hole and will then be adding the bracket.

The bracket moves the weight further away from the transom and unless it is a flotation bracket, i would certainly keep weight in mind, going with a lighter motor on a bracket. With a bracket, you generally pick up 5-10% more speed as the motor is back away from the boat where it gets cleaner water. I dont know of any formula for computing horsepower with a bracket.

I am new to this board, very new but, I do have some insight on this. I have a 79 Master Angler running with a full platform bracket, floatation type. It has a 94 Yamaha 200 carb motor on it and works fantastic. It was even better after I installed some Bennett trim tabs. The bracket has a 26" setback. The performance is outstanding as well, cruising between 38 and 40 with a top speed of 52. I wouldn't put more than that on it, though I have seen some strange installs before. There is a guy down here in Miami that runs a 20 with a 300 Merc on it. Now that is sick...
