Don't forget that if you do a bracket with an outboard, the boat's center of gravity will be different and will handle quite differently...even when compared to a conventional outboard transom.

OMC drives tended to be problematic but were very quiet, and handled GREAT at low speeds. You can't make it live, as part of a historical approach? Just a thought! (-: Boats like ours are sort of getting to be antiques! (I've got a '71 20')

Either way a new engine has to be purchased. Since I live on the gulf coast of florida I fish a lot of shallow water. the i/o would not allow me to go quite as shallow as I would like. Plus the outboard will allow me to free up some deck space. the only thing that would change my mind would be the ability to get a small diesel sterndrive at a reasonable cost and most importantly weight.
Are you still running your omc inboard? I have nothing but praise for it's maneuverability and ease.
thanks cc
