Seacock valves on 1988 23 Scepter

I am slowly going thru and inspecting replacing wiring/plumbing/etc on my boat (have had it
2 months). The boat has 2 seacocks (1 for washdown, the other for livewell). They are pretty
crusty and I would like to replace them. Question??? Is this original seacraft equiptment,
or was is it added later? and what are the odds if I put a wrench on them they will come off
or are they likely to break/snap off? Thanks John

Cant speak to the original equipment question...but as to your other question I would definitely replace as I did just what you said and snapped a badly corroded, poorly installed thru hull off down at the pick up. I tried tapping it to break up the corrosion, penetrating oils, heat... well you get the idea...then I just put a little muscle into it and POW....This better not have been a factory install ... as it was very poorly done. I would even consider getting rid of one of those thru hulls and feeding both from one...My personal opinion is the less holes in the bottom the better...I've seen one too many boat on the bottom in its slip because of below the water line failure of plumbing...Including a relatively new (three year old) Davis boat.....Talk about an ouch!!

I HAVE A 1976 23' OPEN FISH I REPLACED ALL THE THROUGH HULL FITTINGS. THEY WERE STARTING TO SHOW THEIR AGE I DIDN'T WANT TO DO 95% OF THE JOB AND THEN HAVE A MAJOR PROBLEM BECAUSE I DECIDED TO SKIP SOME CORNERS.

All,
Thanks for the input, I replaced both seacocks today. The fittings thru the hull were heavy brass and looked ok to me. I also replace all the hoses and clamps, a bunch of wire, double checked everything and closed it up. I was suprised how clean the bilge and bottom areas of the boat where. I did the same thing on my center console, and it was a mess..... At least now I can reach thru the access plate and open and close the seacocks.
