Transom drain
 

OK, I give up. I can’t make up my mind about the transom drain or the motor-well drain. I think the brass tubes would give you the best drainage, but are they a hassle to keep from leaking? Plastic, brass, or bronze, and which ones? Any links to websites? I have read most of the backdated messages, but still looking for guidance. FYI, replacing the transom on an outboard, from the inside is a major pain in the butt.

Jim, I would put 3M 5400 to seal all through hulls. Then it doesn't matter what material you use. Brass are the most popular, I think plastic or bronz would last longer.

Jim,I would go with brass tubes for the motor well drains. First I would epoxy [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img] : the wood after drilling them, when you put the tubes in 5200 the heck out of them, that way if the sealant ever leaks the epoxy will keep the wood dry. I gave up on the tube for my transom bilge drain. I let the wood dry after pulling that tube out(almost fell out not doing anything)Then put a couple of coats of epoxy on the exposed wood and screwed a new garboard drain on the outside. That way the water runs over the epoxy coated wood on the way out the drain rather than into the wood. Keep up the work. You can blame this weather on me [img]images/icons/rolleyes.gif[/img] I got the boat finished and uncovered and took it for a ride on thursday, then saw the weather and covered it back up again.
