Wedges

I'm at the point of putting the motor on !
I bought Wedges for the transom/motor , I got the input from the "Boat Shop" . What are the theories on this ? Good / Bad ? I'll loose 5* tilt which is Very important down here in SOUTH Fl. waters.
'83 20' Ma .
Thoughts for doing it. Going down the channel will it push the bow down ? so I don't push a wall of water/wake at clutch speed ? This could also be due to the x-tra 553#'s of water in the rotted transom too.
"Trolling" gotta test these New Frenzie's , Can't get enough speed in the "TUB",was told She'll troll flatter / slower ?

Re: Wedges

You do not want to much neg. trim. It could make the boat very unsteady to drive at near planning speed let alone full speed. IF you have kids that take the boat out be sure to move the engine tilt pun up so they do not try and run it fully tucked in.

Re: Wedges

I'd forget the wedges and get tabs. That would accomplish getting the bow down when necessary, and give you the 50 other benefits of tabs! I used the Bennett M80's. Could have gone with the M120's.

Re: Wedges

Thanks !
The Motor is getting put on NOW !!
The Wedges are Home still shrink wrapped !!
I have the m-120's on Her now.I think because of the water logged wet transom (X-tra 800#'s)
Mighta been the problem.
Thanks for the Help.

Re: Wedges

Cat. Brad,
You will need to replace your transon, eventually.
My 1975 20ccI/O had the water line moved 6" up the hull sides for the bottom paint, due to a wet transom and wet foam in the stringers. When she goes back in the water , hopefully next sripng, The water line should be back to normal. Installed a composite transom, light and tough as nails and will never rot.

Tight lines,
Capt. JW

Re: Wedges

This over a Year project started with a broken swivel/steering bracket which led into a transom repair(Hi-density foam) which led into paint job ,which led into Completely changing every piece of Metal, cleats, screws, well everything !The only thing not changed is the Steering helm trim tabs ,console & hull.!which ultimatly led (very Quickly to a change of My $$$$).Fortunatly My Wife loves & misses Boating !I did not put the wedges on ,Their still shrink wrapped !
My 1 year in south Fl. is probably like 5 years for You NORTHERN Fellows !(seasons)
