polishing Marinium

Anybody ever polished the cleats / lights etc that come stock on a Seacraft ?

Mine are little piited in a few spots and I want to polish but do not want to ruiin the finish.

Any experience here ?

FYI: My project is coming along - the conversion of a 1975 23' Tsunami from (2) i/o to (1) i/o. The transom has been completely removed and replaced. A new bulkhead has been installed separating the fuel tank area from the engine area. This was done to tie in the brand new motor beds installed ( to seat the new motor ). A lot of work. Next is: closing the hole in the floor for the smaller engine area...

I wet sanded and polished mine with compound and a buffer. It will ruin the buffing pad ( turns it black). They came out allright but the polished look dosen't last very long ( a couple of months ). They will however look better than they did.

70's,

By buffing it, do you remove any protection, rather is Marinium a coated type surface ( like anodized aluminum ) ?

After polishing, I don't mind it getting dull again, as long as I don't ruin the integrity of the metal...

Thx

I'm sure at one time they were annodized but polishing them seemed to make no difference in integrity. I sprayed down all of my aluminum including the cleats often with woody wax and ruppp aluma guard. I think that helped keep them looking nice.

Try Flitz!!! Amazing stuff will take a heavily oxidized anything and make it shine like new. I did my old cleats just for the heck of it ans they look brand new, though not as nice as the accon pop-ups.
