Transom replacenent---Est. Cost
I need some input from those that have been there and done that. Est. cost to have a shop install new plywood core in my transom and reglass the interior, stringers and knee braces. I want to extend the floor back to the transom and want to install a wide body armstrong bracket. PS I wimped out and pulled the boat before Isabella came to town. Thanks for the help.

HI SKIP, I'M ALMOST THROUGH WITH THE EXACT SAME CONVERSION THAT YOU REFER TO. ARMSTRONG BRACKET AND ALL. NEW MOTOR,RIGGING,LOT'S OF GLASS WORK,FULL PAINT AND MORE,,,I'LL HAVE 30K+ IN IT BEFORE I'M DONE. SEEM'S LIKE A LOT,BUT IT'LL BE 1/2 THE COST OF A NEW ONE AND IT'LL BE TOTALLY CUSTOM. GOOD LUCK. Skip
You probably will not need to do anything with the stringers they usually are in good shape. As for a keel brace that could be a good idea to help support a bracket giving you some added support. Your transom is the real project here as for a cost to have someone else do the work there are a number of guys up in the N.J. and N.Y. area that I am sure will point you to a glass man to do the work for you, but you might want to do it yourself and save the $ this job is more sweat and beer than high technology and the $ you save will pay for the bracket + a lot of other stuff. Think about it. FellowShip |
Re: Transom replacenent---Est. Cost
Skip, I'm with LT on this, This baby will have me for every bid of 30k by the time I'm finished, and thats doing it my self. Although I did go the extra bucks for the Seamark bracket, it didn't make sence to skimp after doing all that work at that point.
If you aren't doing the work your self and have a basket case you may want to rethink. I've had quotes of 4 to 6k locally for a tramson (without bracket) Compared to 600 bucks in materials to do it yourself (plus bracket). Good luck. |
Re: Transom replacenent---Est. Cost
Finster's cost is a little high as he has to replace power. My 23 was a complete restoration with viable powerand trailer and I'll end up around $18,000 with all new electrical, fuel tank, electronics, etc. When the time comes, a Yamaha 225 HPDI is, what, $15,000? So, yeah, $33,000.
Please don't tell my wife.... |

RichV - Oh Yeh? ... Actually, looking for guidance here. I picked up a half sheet of 1/2" HDPE and one of the things I was going to do was the Console panel, now I'm thinking what other matrerials, besides Trayder's recommendation of just glass, to use for the panel. What other options beyond starboard... Thanks! |
