windshield wiper motor
I am, as usual, trying to find the best part for my refit. Now the topic is a windshield wiper motor. Isn't this fun ?!! Yupper !
OK then. I will have to mount this sucker to the windshield ( 23 Tsunami ) as opposed to an interior mounted one. She is going to be in the weather ( until I can afford to enclose the helm ) Anyone have good or bad luck w/ any particular brand or model ? They ain't cheap and I want it to last. Thx, Alan |
Re: windshield wiper motor
Alan,
Check out the Imtra website - they appear to have some high quality stuff, including wiper motors, pantographic arms, etc. Good luck with the project. Chris P.S. For anyone interested, when doing some organizing this past weekend, I found my "blueprints" for the dual fuel tank installation in my 1978 23' Sceptre (replacing single original tank) that allowed me to up the capacity from 80 gal. to roughly 110 gal., without taking up much of the in-deck storage well forward of the fuel tank compartment (a section of the forward tank is designed to slide under the floor of that compartment, resting on the keel stringer). |
Re: windshield wiper motor
Chris,
Thx - how the hell did you find that company ? I am going to call them today. I'll let you know how it goes. |
Re: windshield wiper motor
Chris,
I spoke to the guys there ( nice guys ). They have a motor that is mounted to the windshield but the guy was not sure about it being left to the elements. Also, the shaft was pretty thick - 1/2". The present shaft hole is 5/16" ( not a huge diiference ). The windshield frame is not that thick where I would want to risk drilling too big of a hole ( also the hinged window is right there ) What wiper motor do you have. I guess this is limited to the Tsunami and Sceptre guys because the center consoler's just have to squint and wiper their eyes no matter what. |
Re: windshield wiper motor
check the land- n- sea site, they have some sealed units.

Re: windshield wiper motor
X,
Thx, but I am looking for 'testimonial type'info. I have reviewed just about every unit out there ( I think ). I want to know whcih one you ( or anyone else ) have and if it has lasted, or not. Because, if I buy one and have to drill a bigger hole in my windshield frame, and it craps out after a season or two - well, then I'm married to that unit... |
Re: windshield wiper motor
Abl,
Mine had the old hand operated type. Bought it at boat U.S. I don't think I ever used it, I just put it on tho keep it origional and fill the hole in the frame. |
Re: windshield wiper motor
I've been out in my previous boat, at night in either rough seas or sheets of rain and was really glad to have a dependable wiper clicking away ! When I need to see an unlit nun buoy, I need to see it.
So, for me it's a necessity. |
Re: windshield wiper motor
Alan,
Will this help? American Bosch wiper repair According to the Tsunami boat test, they had American Bosch. |
Re: windshield wiper motor
Ebeach,
Where the hell did you find that gem ? That must have been some UNbelievable web surfing you did. It's great info ! I just wish that someone would build a great, exterior wiper motor from the start and this way you wouldn't need to know how to ripit apart and rebuild it. I have checked Ongaro - they seem like they have a good unit. I still have no clue as to which motor I will choose. However, I now know how to rebuild one down the road! THX |
