Wanted:25" shaft for Honda 130

Currently have a 1971 20' SeacCraft with 1999 Honda 130 with 20" shaft. I am going to close the transom and mount the motor on a floatation brackett and have been advised that a 25" shaft is necessary. Will trade or buy to get the right combo.

Have you looked into an extension kit for that motor???

I'm in a similar situation in that I want to go to 30" from 25". There is a company in Ohio (I think) called Bay Manufacturing that makes these kits (marinesurplus.com has them). Its basically a 5" housing extension with extensions for the shift and drive shaft. I talked to my mechanic about this and he has used them before with great success. The kit alone is about $500 and they require a mechanic to install for warranty purposes. It can be installed/assembled when a water pump is changed.

Now that being said my motor is alot older and I plan on replacing it soon, but this will get me through for now (If I were to get a motor at this point I wouldn’t need the boat .... because someone will have killed me ).

I dont know what, if any, are the ramifications of extending a Four Stroke. The people at Bay manufacturing did tell me that in there 20+ years of manufacture they have not had any issue with this kit. To tell you the truth I was really expecting push back from the mechanic that this is not a good thing to do.

Thanks, I will check into bay manufacturing or marine surplus. The parts from Honda are over 1500.00 so 500 is closer to my budget. If the cost is too high I might have to abort plans for the bracket and just do a notched transom. It seems seaworthy now and I have been fishing the boat heavily (the kingfish and cobia bite has been awesome this year) but there is a soft spot by the top starboard motor mount.

Here’s the link to that site.....but I didn't see Honda listed ....I think I would give them a call to see what your options might be....maybe they haven’t listed the motor yet…….they are really great to talk to.

I got that same story from Mercury close to $2,000 for a new lower unit.....definitely not worth it on an older motor like mine!!!!! That’s how I found these guys

GOOD LUCK!!!!

Scott,
Thanks for the link, unfortunately they do not have parts for Honda. There is a local dealer that has a motor repaired under a warranty claim - same size and year as mine. He will not swap because the motor belongs to Honda, but he will sell it. I am reluctant to sell mine as it has been well maintained, but that is probably my best option.
