1978 23 cc fair price?
Hi fellas I need a little advice as to what you think would be a fair offer on a 1978 CC original condition from the factory. The boat has no T-top and will need to be restored. It is in good condition just dull gel coat etc. It has a 1991 Yamaha 250 recently rebuilt with a SS prop. Boat comes with a good galvanized trailer and no electronics. Please Advise

Chuck,
I'll assume you're talking about a 23. Based on the info provided, I think a fair price is $5,000 to 6,000 (Hull $4,000, trailer $1,000 and motor $1,000). I paid $8,000 for a '89 23 w/ t-top, 98 aluminium trailer and good 200 Yamaha. Once you find out how much time and money goes into a restoration, you'll wish you paid less. Count on replacing part or all of the floor, a fuel tank for sure and maybe a transom. No matter what kind of shape it's in, "get your wallet out". Re: 1978 23 cc fair price?
Thanks guys. This boat supposedly sat for 16 years unused in a dry climate if that makes a difference? Also the trailer has been rebuilt new brakes, Bearings and tires. Someone told me that the Yammi is worth around $4700. I've got the owner down to $13000 should I hold out? I'm in that really wanting Seacraft NOW mode

Sat for 16 years? Man, I would buy one thats advertised in Florida Sportsman as well as this sight for 15K. At least you know what you are getting without all the What Ifs...

13K sounds a bit high. Like Otto said, you're going to need a fuel tank if its origional ($6 to $8 a gallon to have made plus hoses and install labor). The dry storage may have helped on the floor and transom. The engine is a good one but its still 12 years old, $4700 seems a little high there as well. I'd hold out and look around a while longer.

I'm getting it surveyed this week $275 for the survey but it's worth it to know what condition the boat is in. Thanks for the tips I'll let you know how it turns out.

Wait a minute - here's a question you HAVE to ask this guy.How is it that this boat sat for 4 years and then someone slapped a brand new Yammi on it, and let it sit for 12 more? Or did it sit for 15 and someone slapped an 11 year old motor on it last year - and for some reason, didn't work out like he planned.
Either way, unless there's a widow involved,it smells funny to me. Bill |
