I am in the process of rebuilding a 1979 18 seacraft. I cut the floor out and the hull is solid. The transom is also going to be done. can you rebuild a transom from the back of the boat instead of the inside. Like I said before the floor is already out and I was going to try and pull the whole liner out to get to the transom. I don't want cut out the back of the boat. I sent pictures to Trayder. I think I might be getting in over my head [img]/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img] but it sure is fun. From what I have read this is a pretty good boat. I also took all the foam out. Do you have to make sure to back the exact amount or can you just fill it up? Thanks for the time. Rob

Welcome to the site ...

If your floor is already out I would do it from the inside ....without a doubt ....

You can do from the outside .... several have

rcgator, post some pic i would love to see another 18' from the inside. Mine is a 1975 so they should be about the same.

I sent some to trayder but didn't hear back. I have the floor out and have pulled the liner out to replace the transome. I've been taking pictures throughout the process.Soon as I figure out how to post the pics I will. [img]/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img]

I had an 18' (1977 model - www.theboatzone.com/gallery/marklewis ) and liked it very much. I HIGHLY suggest you raise the floor a bit. That was my single complaint with that boat - wet feet.

Also seal off the well in the floor like I did in mine. I made a world of difference! Deck will actually bail!

That is the exact look that I am trying to get. Mark, that boat looks great. How is the t-top? People are trying to tell me that it will get in the way. I was also thinking of making a solid transom and putting on a Porta Bracket from porta products. What does yours draft? I just printed a picture of your boat. Now that I see that it is possible to make it look that good. Fisher, do you have any pictures? Raise the deck/ How far? I have to figure out how to post pictures. I apologise, I am really exited about the posibilities now. Thanks for the inspiration!! Where did you find or make the hatches? Live well ideas?? I no longer have the boat, but would actually do the t-top a bit different. It did NOT get in the way, and I primarily fly fish, so it would be fine for just about anyone. At noon on a sunny day, I wouldn't want to be without it. The top was on there when I bought it and I would change the design of it a bit if redoing it. I just had a top made for a 20' that is more to my liking.

Not sure about draft, but it drafted about 1.5" too deep for self bailing! Hence my suggestion that you raise the floor. It is NOT a shallow water boat if you are trying to do any sort of flats fishing. I am in the midst of having a 1971 20' redone and we raised the floor just over 2".

I personally think the 18' is too short a hull for a bracket from an appearance standpoint. Functionality is a whole other issue though.
