Floor Hatch - gasket material for water proof/resi
Has anyone ever figured out how to keep the weather out of the hinged floor hatches ? I'm putting a useable hatch in the floor where it used to be screwed down permanantly ( to cover a fuel tank ). It will be a much used storage area - and unfortunately, a wet storage area unless I can devise a way to keep rain water from getting in. I'm resolved to the Rubbermaid w/ a cover idea unless one of you has addressed this ? Thx |

Alan
I removed the old screwed down sealed battery hatch and and made a new one that was hinged. http://www.theboatzone.com/albums/CSteele/res8257.jpg Then I used PVC pipe cut in half and glassed to the underside of opening edges to form a "Gutter System" http://www.theboatzone.com/albums/CSteele/res8256.jpg I put PVC pipe drain tubes in the aft corners (you can see the holes in the above picture) and tied them into the self bail drains (below picture) that 90* out the transom. Works fine http://www.theboatzone.com/albums/CS...rain.sized.jpg |

Capt Chuck. That is a great idea and it looks great too.
Only problem w/ my application is that I do not have a lip to glass under. My 'hole in the floor' has smooth sides that do not lend itself to your fix. I think I am stuck w/ having to try to seal the hatch well when closed. |
