Consel Refurb
 

When I first bought my 1975cc I thought I would junk the original consel and buy a more modern one. After looking at the thing for a while I decided that there was nothing wrong with it and maybe I could make some changes to my liking. Like everything else i've done this has turned out to be a bigger project then I originally thought and should definately get a rating high up on the difficulty scale for Fellowships Law. I'm going to mount my hard top to the consel and not to the floor therefore I had to beef up the inside of it to make it as solid as possible. I used 1/2 inch plywood to line the entire inside. It's cabosiled into place and fiberglass taped all the joints. It's HEAVY now.
I like to steer a boat from the left side but the original gloove box was on the left so I moved it to the right. Also there were multiple cut outs for gauges etc that had to be filled.
I wanted there to be lots of walking space around the consel so I decided to make some toe space were the bow tapers toward the front of the consel. My 4x12 mold worked well for making some angle pieces that I glassed into the consel. There will be no exposed screws holding the consel to the floor. Everything will be bolted from the inside.
Lastley I wanted a place to rest my feet while I leaned onto my leaning post so I made a small mold for a a foot rest with toe space under it. There will be an access door above the foot rest. I plan on putting a seat on the front door and the door will have shocks that lift it upward instead of hinges to swing out.

Looks great as like the rest of your work. I am glad to see you are beefing up the console you will need it. The previous owner of my boat also installed the T Top (with a crows nest) just fixed into the console. He never did anything to the consol to help support all that extra weight and swing which caused much damage to it that I needed to fix.

Looks great Strick.. nice work.. you should keep all of your molds.. there are places that sell new custom glass pieces for old boats.. like Glass Tech (www.glass-tech.com) does for Berts... might make a nice little side business.. Ps Brian ..sorry for being so so slow on the leaning post..It's pretty hard to walk away from that 6month old little guy I have.. I'll have it to you soon..

Ha [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img] no I havent actually finished any of the big projects.. seems that they are all 2/3 done. I'm waiting on the day when it all will come together and that day seems to keep getting farther away them I thought. It's amazing how slow things go sometimes. I think I spend more time scratching my head then anything else. I'm getting my cushions made for the leaning post and I have the doors made http://www.classicmako.com/forum/top...66&whichpage=1 but it still seems like things are moving a turtle speed.

I enjoyed your images of the console. It seems you're progressing just fine. The end product will be well worth it.

How much time do you spend on the Bay and Ocean Vs. the Delta? What do you fish for out there?

I fish the delta and bay more the the ocean but I got the seacraft so I would not have to rely on someone else to bring me out to the Salmon and Albacore grounds. The delta is 5 minutes from my door and we get striped bass and sturgeon catfish etc. The bay has a halibut run that start in the spring. We get pretty much the same species in the bay including shark and salmon.

Nice Work!! I just started ripping into my boat this week. It's 350lbs lighter so far!! Let me know if you need a hand or a day off to go fishing from shore!!!
