Removing Transom Cap

I finally got the chance to start opening my new project up yesterday. It was ugly. Wood used as shims under the floor. The tank used as a support for the floor, etc. Many a beer run is now being planned to get this project done right.

The inside of the transom appears soft and I'm about to start opening up the transom, as well. My question is how to cut the transom cap/ well so I don't have unnecessary extra glass work later. I have a 1985, 23 CC with the low transom well and the two small battery box size wells on both the port and stbd. side . I've gone through over a year of previous posts looking for pictures of someone's project who cut through this cap but cannot find any.
Has anyone done this previously, or will my '85 be the first? Dink

Close but a different back end. The cap appears to overlap the deckand there is an gap between the side of each well and the side of the boat. I just don't where to start and end the cut without overdoing it.
I'll try to take a few pictures after the big snow we are expected to get tomorrow and post.

Great shots. I got the basic idea, even though my cap is a bit different that the potter cap.
I'll have a go at it with the sawsall within the week.
I'll also begin to post my pictures as soon as I figure out how to do that.
