Splash Board Install with Starboard
 

Has anyone built their own Splash Guard for a notched transom CC using starboard? If you have pictures please post them, particularly if you have done this for a 21SC. I have seen the factory installed version with the piano hinge on the new 23's and it would seem simple enough to fabricate, but I am mostly wondering how to affix the stationary bottom portion to the deck. My second thought was to make the entire thing "removeable" with four slide latches (2 on each side of the board, top and bottom). I can't see having to remove it often(?) Why do they not install these on the 21's - or do they install them on the new ones? Thanks.

My father made one out of StarBoard for his 23 Sceptre. It is hinged at the bottom and is one solid piece, so it doesn't bi-fold like the original. He holds it in place with 4 slide latches and it works very good and looks nice too. He cut (beveled?) the top edge to follow the curve of the transom, and then he put a band of aluminum trim across the top edge to dress it up a little. If I had a picture, I'd post it. I have considered doing this to my 21 and was planning on making it a one piece design. I was going to make a channel on each side out of starboard so that you could slide the door in the channel. Of course if you tilt the engine up you would have to pull it out. I got this idea from the Seacraft rep that I talked to at a show. I was inquiring what a factory one would cost and found out it was almost $400. I will make one before I pay that much for it.

I've been thinking about getting rid of my splashwell and reclaiming the space and using a splash board. But one theme I see on a lot of these boats is the wide removable splash boards needing to be removed when the motor is tilted up. These boats also have wide notches for twins as they can be equipped that way. But knowing I'll have a single what I think I'll do is make a smaller notch in the big splashboard with a rubber seal so that the little board can be pulled out of the big board and the motor (only being a single) can fit snug into the notch of the splashboard for when in a slip.

Here is one of the Other Things I've got to finish one Day. I was planning on using the take apart hinges(2nd photo)because of the quickness.The other hinge would also work,put a quick release pin instead of cotter pin. Piano hinge in the middle.Used a white polycarbonate material clean looks good.I cut the top section to fold toward the engine,Don't Make THAT MISDTAKE !! have it fold inward & snap/velcro to the bottom.I have to get another piece of it for the screw up.

Before I cut out my splashwell I replaced the wood fold down splashwell with one made out of starboard. I also mounted 8 rodholders on it. It fit my '78 CC really well. If anyone on the board wants it, make me an offer. [img]/images/graemlins/smirk.gif[/img]

I did a single ploy board with slide bolts on the back side not visable in this picture. My 225 would tilt almost all the way out of the water without hitting the board.

Does your splash board just lift out or is it hinged on the bottom. Can't tell from the picture.
Also, is the starboard trim along the front edges just decrative or is it being used to hold the board from falling into the boat while it seals out water? Dink
