Looking for owners of 23' SC w/ twin I/O's?

I've been restoring a 1974 23' CC with twin I/O's. Hoping someone could give me some insight on their range knowing that the fuel tank is only 70 + or - gallons. Thank you. I've repowered with new 4cyl. merc's. I think there was only a few of this Potter type built?

Cap't Dave,

I'm a friend and associate of your Dad. I've watched the work progressing on your 23. John may have told you I am restoring a 23CC OB on Salt Road. Did they finish yours yet?

I think your new power is a good choice. I don't have any experience with twin I/O's, but someone here will. I would speculate that under a full load, those motors would burn around 5 gallons per hour each. So your range would be in the 150 mile area with some reserve.

Best of luck.

The tank I pulled out of my cc23 1976 was 100 gals. It looked original so you may go farther than you think! I had twin merc 6 cyl

Generaider: were your twin engines in-line chevy 6 cyl, 165 hp each? That is what I pulled from my very old SC. After speaking with any number of folk on this, I believe I have a hybrid SC, based on a modified Bertram hull. Anyway, my boat is listed as being a 21 foot Seacraft built in 1966. I have removed the I/O, sealed the transom, and am now deciding on a bracket (I have a Gil Marine single bracket that some on this web site suggest I not use). I hope to put on a 250 HP engine to replace the twin 165's...any comments are welcome. - aaf

Are you sure it is a 20? What is your hull number? I have a 73 20cc as well and I don't see how twin 165s would fit! Plus I use a 150 (90s vintage) and it goes plenty fast for me 32 knots plus the weight will bury your scuppers. I went for the Potter bracket and would do it again on my 23 and the 20 uses a jack plate to fit a 25" shaft. You are welcome to come see my boats for a comparison and to see the bracket. I'd hate to see you go to all that work to install an old bracket to have problems with it.
