rebuilt 20 1972
 

Looking at a 1972 20 that was rebuilt by Parkington boat in CT. What should i look for before calling in a surveyor to check out hull? motor is a 1998 yamaha 150 serviced by local yard that i trust.

find out what they mean by "rebuilt". Is it simply a nice shiny new coat of paint, or did they replace the transom/tank/deck/raise stringers/etc?

Mark, I was going to ask for the invoice for all work done to verify any work then rely on a good surveyor to asses condition of the hull. the boat feels real solid from walking on and crawling and banging around with a small hammer ,no dull thuds but sharp clicks.

For my own personal interest, I had photos taken of every single step of the rebuild of my boat. Some yards do this for their own records, so you might be able to get some shots of the before-during-after process if they took any.

As with any of these premium priced older boats, cost factors into how picky you can be. If they want a LOT of money for it, you should expect the boat to be in great shape with an extensive list of upgrades. If the price is pretty reasonable, you can forgive a shorter list of improvements.

Some people's idea of a rebuilt boat is a good bath, fresh coat of paint, and maybe a new transom. Others consider a rebuild to be exactly what it sounds like: rebuilding the boat from scratch. If you dig through the archives on this site and look at either Trayders boat or Other Toms Whitewater, THOSE are rebuilt boats!
