Control cable Length on 23 CC

Can anyone tell me how the control cable lengths are derived? Overall length (end to end) or are they measured from the knob at the binicle side to the adjustment knob on the engine side?
I think I need 20 ft. cables as that is what an old one measures between the knobs.
What size cables are you 23' CC guys using? I guess this is another way to doublecheck.

Thanks Dink

20's will work fine. I just ordered some new cables and I ordered 22's for my 23cc with a 30 inch bracket. The ones that I pulled out of my 23cc were 16 feet end to end.

So it's safe to assume that the Hydraulic hoses of a SeaStar system would need to be 20' also????
