Rub Rail
 

Yesterday Tim Barber came over and helped me install the rub rail on my boat. I am eternally greatful for Tims help as there is no way I would have been able to get this done by myself. What a PIA to install. It was hard making the bends around the corners of transom and then the arch as well. However with the help of a few beers a lot of cursing and some pounding with a hammer we were able to complete the job. This job gets a high difficulty rating on Fellowships law. Of course it would have helped if we knew what the heck we were doing [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

Strick - glad to help out.

I'm still amazed at how well fellowship's rule works.

Need to install a Rub Rail => add beer.

Need to figure out how to make a complex bend with the stainless insert around the corners => add 3 more beers

Seriously the new rub rail looks wicked awesome!! especially the arch and the bow profile.

Let me know if you want a hand installing the engine . . . I've still got a few weeks before I start my new job.

You should post some pics of the finished leaning post wearing the cushions and boat jewelry.

Congrats again on the new house too.

ps - I'll let you know when I get close to putting the floor in.

The rub rail is made by Taco Marine. It is listed as flexible and the part # is V119696 and the ss insert part # is S114510. It is not in their on-line catalog but I did find it in their paperback catalog over at West Marine. It is about 2 inches high and 3/4 inch thick. It was the closest match I could find to the one that came with the boat. They do have some factory seacraft matches but they were all for the newer seacrafts and were smaller then this rubrail. It's not cheap so be prepared to bend over and take it like a man if you order one.

Don- the color is Aqua mist from Awlgrip.

It's 3/4 inch. we used some clamps to help hold it in place as close to the corner as we could then we started to make the bend by hand and pounded with a hammer on the ss insert while it was wrapped in a towel and slowly bent it around the cornar. There really needs to be thick fiberglass at the corners for the screws to bite into.
