Ok Donnie, I can make out that red '77 Potter sticker on the side of the console but how about a close-up posted on the "HDS" thread for everyone to see http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung...smiley-032.gif

Be interested to see how the additional weight affects the boat while at rest. That engine is about 650#, right? Also, how do they rig the steering since it's integrated with the engine?

Nice setup Donnie . Can't wait to see the performance #s.

Re: Mercury Verado 250

I thought Merc was not selling those to the public in the form of repowers until 2005? Was told by the Merc rep at my Whaler rendezvous that until the mechanics are all trained to mount them & service them, Verados were only being put on high end Brunswick boats like the 320 Outrage, etc. What does a repower cost if ya don't mind and what made you go with that engine instead of the 225 4 stroke YamaMerc that is only $13k?

Interesting point, I thought the same thing too.

A couple weeks back I got to hop on the East Coast Fountain rep's 38 CC re-rigged with trip 275 Verado's . He had trip 250 Opti's and says the performance is comparable, most likely due to the extra weight of the Verado's. Didn't get a chance to take a ride but got to hear them run and they are smooth and quiet.

Re: Mercury Verado 250

Smooth and quiet is somewhat of an understatement...The 250 is 70 lbs heavier than my old 275 Merc according to Mercury, but it sure feels the other way around when rigging it.The Verado is regestered as a 2005 and I have waited since April to get my hands on it.The performance #'s from the Fountain rep are probably dead on considering that you have to run premium in the 275 if you don't it degrades itself to 250.The reason I ordered a 250 to start with, runs fine on 87 octane. The 200-275 are all internally the same with different computers and boost settings for the supercharger. It is rumoured they have one pushing close to 400hp.
Why did I buy it?
I shopped rigged prices on all 2-4 stroke possabilitys.I did not find any 13K 225 Yamahahs in Charleston SC.I finally sold myself on the 250 Suzi and have heard nothing but glowing reviews from everyone I talked to.I assumed the Verado would break my bank but went to check and low and behold we worked it down to 1k more than the Suzi rigged.I looked at my leaking SeaStar helm with rotten hoses and the choice was pretty easy.
I will let you know an honest rigged price when it is done we aren't there yet........but I cant wait!
