\"Fighting Lady\" yellow

Can anyone tell me the origin of the name "Fighting Lady" yellow? As near as I can tell, it appeared in Rybovich Boat Works documents in the late 50's to very early 60's. I would love to know more.

You'll be fighting with your lady over how much extra you paid for it....

I dont know if this is a fable or not but I heard some story about a big time fishig lady who loved the color so much that she ordered a merritt or some other boat of that type in it and from that time on it was called fighting lady yellow.

I've always attributed it to the color of a white surfboard that spent one too many seasons in the sun...

I think its much nicer than a yellowed surfboard. Some people say oh its another yellow one again. Well there is a reason for it. It's a classic color for a classic boat and in my opinion it looks great. That's why I used it on my '72 23'cc this past year. There was some fellow down in FL. who I beleive had a few bucks and had a 36 foot Andy Mortison. He wanted a different color for his boat and had Awlgrip make it special for him and they added it to their product line. The name of his boat was Fighting Lady.
The only reason I know this is because the baot is in a shed at kentmoor, wating for restoation. There is also another Fighting Lady, whick is also a 44ft Andy mortison which is in Charter service in OC, MD. And i think she os going to Jupiter, FL on the 11th od October.
Hope this straightens things out.
