drainplug question
What is the best type of drainplug for the drainhole at the bottom of the transom on my 20' Seafari? I thought the hole would be threaded, but it doesn't appear to be....
And, should it be installed from the outside or the inside? I want to keep this boat floating !! Thanks! Steve |
Re: drainplug question
Well, you have a choice. You can remove what is in there and replace it with a threaded one or, just use a good quality rubber plug, installed from the outside. I guess you could install it from the inside however, that will require you to get down in the bilge every time you pull the boat. Do not use a cheap plug, simply because it will not last long.....

Re: drainplug question
I used 1in PVC shd 40 to keep the water from the transom core. It was glued in by using epoxy/cabisol. I then installed a Garboard plug on the outside. The inside flange fitts inside of 1in PVC perfect.

Re: drainplug question
Make sure you install the plug that gets screwed in with the small T-handle, not the type with a flip-handle. The flip-handle can get flipped by the water force, seaweed, flotsam, etc. and fall out of the boat without your knowledge.

Re: drainplug question
I install mine from the inside. Just reach into the bilge and pull it out when trailering from the water.

Re: drainplug question
I have used the T handle type rubber plug on my 20' SC for over 10 years without a problem. I install it from the outside because with the I/O it is difficult to reach from the inside.

Re: drainplug question
I've had both the rubber type as well as the threaded bronze version and have not had any troubles with either. I have always installed them from the outside.
