I saw that auction this morning. My question is does the seller think that the boat is worth more than the original 19k, now that he has done all the "hard" work. Is it really a project boat if you don't have to do any fiberglass work????

It looks like someone cut it down to accept a 20" motor, then put a jackplate on to take it back to 25"!?!?!?!? [img]/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img]

Brian,
The previous owner of my father's Sceptre did that. The boat originally had twins with 20" shafts, then the owner repowered with a single. They chopped the transom down 5" to accomodate the new single. Last season my dad repowered with a 25" Yamaha and installed a manaul jackplate. It actually works quite well and has improved the planing ability of the boat at lower speeds.

From the pictures it looks like there is plenty of work left to be done.
I would consider going to look at the boat if I could find the time.
But, then I might want to buy it too. I don't have the money or the time for that.

I emailed the guy last night. Asking is $12,500 with a double axle trailer. thoughts...

Considering the work involved to get it prestine, $12,500 sounds optimistic to me...but somebody will probably buy it. As mentioned above, that boat may have started out with a 20" transom and what we are seeing is a Starboard addition to stop splash entry? Either way, the new owner should approach it as a complete redo if they want it right.

Mark- you are probably right. At the end of the day you're looking at around $20k for a put together 23ft no matter how you slice it. DANG!
