Mercruiser fuel pump

For those of you who have or have had sterndrives, have you had problems with your fuel pump? If so, do you remember the symptoms? Mine looks like it's going out since my fuel supply to the carburetor is intermittent. At the moment the fuel pump is so dry the filter looks unused but the engine's been cranked over and should have been wet from the fuel, however, most times it works OK. Does anyone know if they make a rebuild kit for these? It's a 1970 Mercruiser 3.0L 140hp engine.
