Winterize: spray motor w/ CRC ?

Hey guys. First year w/ an i/o - a brand new one. Would you recommend spraying the entire motor etc. w/ CRC oil to keep rust to a minimum ? I always did this w/ my o/b's and it helped keep the motor(s) looking new.

Thanks

I never found it necessary on my i/o, but it can't hurt, if you don't mind the work. My motor never got wet. I think it would be a good idea to rinse and spray if the motor has been exposed to salt water.

Actually I would recommend Corrosion Block for all the painted metal surfaces. Remember everything you spray on an IO engine will eventually wind up in the blige, so be ready for that.. Then use CRC Heavy Duty Corrosion Inhibitor on the electrical wires, the connections, under any rubber protector caps and especially the main circuit/fuse panel on the boat. CRC HDCI is a heavier coating that will stay in place at least two years. It's too heavy for general spraying. Corrosion Block comes in a light and heavy duty versions. The light version is what you want for general spraying, but the CRC is better for long term protection of electrical connections.. The next step up is Boeshield T9 which drys to a heavy waxy coating. It's a little too much...

My theory is: To keep the protecting oil on during the Winter and then degrease in the Spring - I don't like all the oil getting all over the bilge etc. And, I find that the oil attracts alot of crap too.

What do you think of that is idea. I want to protect but I don't want to create a mess...
