Installing Navman 2100 Fuell Flow Meter

Santa brought me a Navman 2100 Fuel Flow Meter. The instructions say: "Avoid connecting to power circuits that share loads with ignition, alternaters, inverters and radio transmitters". Does this mean that I can't set it up so that it shuts off when I shut off the ignition?

Have any of you hooked up one of these?

I just installed one this past summer. Connected it to the key switch. No problems so far. I use it as my fuel gauge.

Mine has been set up that way for 2 years now. No problems at all.
