Gentlemen:
I've finally finished the restoration of my '75 Sceptre and it turned out better than I expected. "Before" pictures of SeaDeucer are posted, "after" pictures of (newly renamed) Ancabet soon to follow...
As part of the restoration I got interested in bottom paint removal and was turned on to soda blasting (sand blasting with baking soda). There is a good market here on the Northern Neck of Virginia so I'm starting Bay Blast to bring the service to local yards and body shops. This process is great for removing bottom paint without hurting gelcoat, it also works well on anything metal and some wood. I'm sure this will save countless hours for many people wanting to remove their bottom paint. I'm sure you have well qualified people working for you that know what they are doing, but if you don't, it WILL go right through gelcoat. Here is a bit of text taking from the Armex site: "...It's sharp - baking soda crystals delivered under relatively low pressure but at high velocity will scour virtually any coating from any substrate..." - Very true, even gelcoat. There is a Bertram here in Stuart that was soda blasted and the person pulling the trigger hesitated in several spots. Oops. Bye bye gelcoat, hello hull!

I had my 23 CC soda blasted about 2 1/2 years ago and was glad to get it done cost me $600 and for me it was worth the expense. I did get pitting in the gel coat but I figured that on a 1977 hull what can you expect. I then had the bottom re gel coated and I keep on a trailer. Good luck with your new business remember you will need to keep control of the leftovers the pollution fines can get hefty but with baking soda at least you shouldn’t have a problem with the media you use.
