Repowering a 21,
 

Looking to repower my 1998 21 cc, specs call for a 200-225, but will a 250 merc efi work?, it is 50#'s over the 200 weight so that is not such a big deal? has all the merc gauges, controls tank etc so I will not have to re-rig any ideas??

Sounds like it will work okay, but SC rates your boat for a max 225hp, so you may run into an insurance issue if there's ever an accident.

If you go new, you will still have to re-rig. All new V6 Mercs and the Verado's now use the digital SmartCraft control system. The older cables and wires don't work. [img]/images/graemlins/mad.gif[/img]

Yes I've found that out, looking for a 2002-2004 motor preferably a 225 but will consider a 250, will be a merc to save on the rigging.

After this weekend, I am considering a 225 suzuki or a 225 Yamaha 4 stroke costs are about the same but the Suzuki does have the 6 yr warrantee, any one out there have either one of these?

I dont have first hand expirience on either motors but ive heard good things about both. If you go suzuki make sure there is a good dealer nearby as their dealer network is not as large as yammy or merc. Also i have heard that while the 225 yammy is a great motor it doesnt put out 225 its more like 215

I just read something at edsmarinesuperstore.com that yammi is including an extended warranty with all new motors...might be worth checking out.

Post this question on the floridasportsman.com boating forum. The answers will be more region specific and will no doubt be informed as to the actual dealer network in the Miami area for both Suzuki and Yamaha. I suspect that either one will work quite well though.

Responses from Wisconsin folk are irrelevant as to the dealer network of YamaHonZukiRudes - they don't live in your area. Walk around your local marina and ask owners of the two engines you are considering how they like them and what complaints, if any, they have had with them.

Thans Mark, posted on the Hull truth and one of the responses was a 140 suzuki, and that the deck and transom should be raised and reinforced for this engine, they mistook this for the older Seacrafts, but basically I can't go wrong with either one, plenty of dealers for both, but then again, tomorrow morning I'm looking at a 225 evinrude e-tec, over the phone prices were quoted $1000.00 less than the 4 strokes, too many choices.
