Welding & wires

Quick question.

I have two stress cracks in my t top frame right by the joints. I have having an experienced welder fix them (costing more than I want). I had some cables running through the t top frame (1 for a radio antenna, 1 for a light on top of the t top and two for a rear flood light).

Anyway the welder suggested that I get the wires out of the frame (he did not want to damage them while welding). I cut and pulled the wires out. I tied string to them so that I have a feeder back down the frame. Does anyone know of anything that i can use in place of the string, that will hold up better to the welding (or maybe there is no such thing)?

Any/all ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

A piece of mechanic's wire. The string will burn. Use the string to pull the mechanic's wire thru.

It's just solid core steel wire, like bailing wire.

The mechanics wire worked out great. Thanks for the tip.
