I know of a 38 Fountain that is currently, or has just left the Mercury racing shop to have it's triple Verado's punched to up to 400HP a piece. This boat will be run on the fishing circuit and the goal is to see how long the tweaked motors will hold up. From what I hear, they are doing this with a few boats at different horsepower to see where the reliability horsepower level is. I would say by next year we will see a bigger mass produced Verado after testing is done at a higher level.

I heard the 400hp years ago. [Before the 1st motor was released]I have a buddy that his cousion is a Merc Dealer. Merc has already done it in their testing.
The word was 400hp and 9000rpm and they couldn't blow it up.

ProLine boats tested a pair of Verado's rated at 350hp on a 34' sportfisherman concept hull with an 12' beam weighing almost 14K lbs. They claimed the two engines pushed that hull to "nearly" 40 mph. Same hull originally equipped with twin BB Chevy IB's rated at 420 hp only did 35 mph. The t/225 Johnson 2 strokes got a speed of 32 mph. I hear they're going to production with this hull in a twin O/B and twin diesel sterndrive config.

At this year's Boston boat show, Chuck Arnold was telling Trayder and I about this bad boy. With the trip 275 Verados it was fast, but Chuck is expecting high 80's with the 400's. [img]/images/graemlins/shocked.gif[/img]

That's the boat, the "Turn and Burn" and I would say the name is fitting. I saw 68 on the GPS with the 275 Verados's but that was with a full off-shore tournament load, full fuel etc...It will turn over 70mph now with a light load, so I would say low 80's with upgraded motors would be no problem.

my 250 should last forever if the high HP motors are even being considered for a production setup.
Anyone seen a 400 HP E-Tec yet..........
